Same here... I just bought my first chunk of Nevada desert paradise, and I'm looking to improve it with my own sweat and perseverance.. Great information, and great presentation.. much appreciated.

I quickly ran out of patience drilling my timbers. I had a 5 qt jug of used motor oil I hadn't recycled yet, dipped the drill bit in it, then proceeded to drill... much improved. Dipped my timber lock screws too. Got the idea from my dad... back in the day he'd drag a screw across a bar of soap before driving it home. Nice job. I always wondered if one of those battery powered augers had enough umph to do the job. Evidently it does. 👍

Good tip with the oil or soap. I'll try to keep that in mind if I have to drill through some thick material again.

When I was a trim carpenter in the eighties, I would wax the nail clips so they could penetrate hardwood material.

I'm about to start a similar project but mine is going to have three sections of about 50' each and two sets of stairs..I'm forgoing the chainsaw and instead using a reciprocating saw with 12" wood blades.

The part where you laid the level on it's side. The level of Crosstie crack me up. Considering you apparently have limited knowledge of using tools you did a good job

You know if that piece wasn't level, the bubble would have moved even if the level was on its side.

What kind of drill and bit were used to make the holes for the rebar?
@teeebeee39466 ай бұрын
You forgot to add creosote to the parts you cut off. Thats what keeps rail road ties from rotting. Wear a mask and eye protection sanding railroad ties.
@FindingSelfReliance6 ай бұрын
I put some roofing repair sealant on the parts I cut. I'm hoping that will work.

Didn't think you needed a dead head for a wall that short?
