Your garden area is great, and your info about how to fill them is so helpful! I started gardening last year at the home I am in now. First time in more than 15 years I’ve been able to! I added chicks to my tiny new “homestead”! If I win the raised bed, I’d expand my garden this year to include radishes and carrots and cabbages!! I’ve never done asparagus!! I’d love to try that!! My wife, like yours, has some plans for this planter. Between peppers, squash, and tomatoes she's very excited to get something like this moving. I've assembled some wood raised beds, but she's tired of needing to build new ones each year, and none of our neighbors are replacing fences anytime soon, so I'm out of spare wood for building. I think it is so sweet that you spent some of your gardening time to show love for your wife by giving her a space of her own. I can’t wait to see how her garden looks in the Spring and Summer. If I had a Vego raised bed, I would grow bushy squash, zucchini, okra, and a variety of beans and peas. I have wanted to try raised beds for a long time, but due to the cost I have been unable to do so. I would really like to see if the investment of raised gardens versus my current container garden would be a good choice. A Vego raised bed would allow me to grow larger plant varieties and utilize the spaces in between for herbs, pollinators, lettuces…

When I trimmed my current vego garden, I overlapped a small portion at the end for that settling. I had seen another video that said that happens. It overlaps easily.

I have heavy clay soil and therefore love to grow in raised beds. I would grow hot and long sweet peppers. Also eggplants, mainly the skinny, Asian eggplant varieties such as Ping Tung, Nagasaki Long and Little Fingers. The long varieties produce much more fruit than bell, or round types. The trellis spacing in that walkway is 4ft and in between the beds in the other direction is 3ft!

We have made all of our raised beds with random cedar scraps. They work just fine but are starting to need to be replaced. I’d love to try a vego bed! We would try anything in these - lettuces, herbs, kale probably.

A tobacco farmer here in ky told me the best way to fix toxic or bad soil is to plant sunflowers. They absorb all the bad in the soil. Does anyone else out there know this?

I enjoy your gardening videos😊. We've been having such a time with our vegi garden. It's got full sun, but it's full of this horrible rhizome weed that sucks the life out of everything around it😢. My husband has tried digging it completely up and sifting the soil, but we just can't get rid of this horrible weed (Watch, it's probably a cure for cancer or something. Anyway, last year we got some of those planting bags and planted some peppers & tomatoes in them, as well as some pak choi which we put in some window box type planters, and put these on the deck (used a mix of our garden top soil🙄, bagged compost & soil, peat, and a bit of granular fertilizer). They did awesome😃! We also planted the same stuff in our regular, flat, vegi garden to be able to compare. We got about 2 small peppers out of our regular garden, but we had a bumper crop of jalapeño & chilli peppers from our plants in the grow bags. As we're getting older, we're finding the whole grueling work of managing a ground garden very unfulfilling, but the grow bags and other planters are quite manageable, enjoyable, and rewarding. So, this year, we're hoping to get our hands on some other varieties of raised bed, so we can up our yield of peppers & tomatoes, and try some cauliflower, cabbage, and broccoli😋. I love the olive color planters they have on the website, so here's hoping😊. Thanks so much. Sandy

Vego sells these cups and they are definitely little replicas of the raised beds haha! As for cutting the hole, any weeds that deep wont be able to grow through the bed, and we wanted to allow for worms and other friends to be able to move up and into the bed through the bottom. And if we do grow a plant with a deep root system we want it to be able to grow into the soil below it. For us it was worth taking the chance on a couple of weeds, BUT you could absolutely keep the weed barrier below the bed with no issues at all!

I'm 83 this will be my 1st year with raised bed gardens. I really didn't know how to fill it. A town close to us sell compost for $40.00 a ton is that ok to start wit? Thanks jim80

I would mix that compost with some native soil or something similar. Even some normal top soil or something like that, if you can. If you do only compost it will be too "hot" to grow in. Basically it would be too much nutrition within the soil and the plants could struggle. I will say that I have filled raised beds in the past with compost and only compost and it wasn't terrible. The plants grew, but they didn't thrive.
