Great information. I have been shopping for raised bed options as I am 74 years old. I have some various raised beds already and a in- ground garden which I want to turn into raised beds. Thank you.

You’re very welcome! I’m only 32, but my back was beginning to hurt with my in ground garden. It was nice to raise them up a bit this last season!

Oh, and I forgot to ask if I should add some lime to the browns if they are pine logs and chips. We had a bunch of Leyland cypress cut down and chipped so that is free fill for me.

When mixing your soil, instead of putting it in a wheelbarrow, fine someone with a cement mixer. It's an amazing way to mix your soils and get the consistency you want.

That’s not a bad idea at all! Even if you have to rent one it would still probably be worth it 😂!

I have a mole problem in my existing veggie garden with ten 4' X 8' six inch high raised beds. I plan on (slowly) converting to Vego raised beds. I want 2 this year with a cattle panel arch. I plan on putting down hardware cloth underneath the Vego beds to stop the moles from tunneling and allowing voles to eat my root crops. Have you considered this? My one Vego bed is still in the box so I have time to consider all my options.

I couldn't imagine filling up that many raised beds 😮. I got just one for Mothers Day that I'll have to put together and fill. It's a small one but I'm definitely doing it the same way. 👍👍

It was MISERABLE… but we had fun doing it 😂. Good luck on your bed!

I have some pine boughs in a pile. was wondering if you can use those at the bottom? ive had neighbors remove a dead pine tree from their yard & nothing would grow for a long long time where they removed it & they told me b/c it was from pine...wasnt sure why. But wanted to check if pine boughs ok.

Could you use bon fire pit ash? I found the big minute soil bricks you thinks it’s worth a shot?

I'm new to this concept. But can't you make your own soil instead of buying it?
@WhitepepperFarmshomestead Жыл бұрын
Absolutely you could! For us it was cheaper to buy bulk but mixing your own soil would be somewhere between bagged soil and bulk soil as far as price per cubic yard goes!

I use empty cleaned milk jugs in the bottom of the beds. It displaces a lot of bottom space where roots don’t grow Saved tons of money
@WhitepepperFarmshomestead Жыл бұрын
That would save a ton! I haven’t thought about that but it would definitely work!
