You need a win condition for a hand to be valid. Imagine you're playing poker but you can't win with just high card

What Stovespiegel said! Every hand needs a valid yaku in order to win, some common examples are Riichi or Tanyao. I have a section in my video tutorial about Yaku in case that helps!
