Although I have re-watched this particular hunt about a dozen time's. I still enjoy it everytime. Awesome job on staying with him and working him once the thermals got into your favor. Calling him that far off of private is something not alot of people can do or would have had the patience to do.. GREAT-JOB EVERYONE...

Way to go Treavor. I hit a 5X5 in almost the EXACT same spot and did not get him. He bedded down and we watched him for 3 hours then he got up and headed out. Got a trail cam pic 41 hours later, 11 days later, and I guy saw him 2 weeks later with 12 cows. Love the series and keep them coming

Obviously was not in the same spot or you woulda been packing out meat buddy.. you don't double lung hit any animals even elk and they live, just is not going to happen...

I personally experienced something similar hunting moose in my province of Québec in Canada. I was said to call too much and having not seen a moose in 7 years and I was not certain my calls were good. I was hunting with a crossbow one evening and made bull moose calls, rattling, breaking branches alternating with non receptive cow calls. This went on for about two hours without hearing any answer. But just before leaving this spot at last light I heard one big “Crack” some 250 m away. The next morning I sneaked back in there and let out one cow call. I hadn’t finished that a bull called back. We conversed for close to two hours. Always out of sight, he would start leaving, I’d call him back with cow calls combined with cow urine sprayed in the air and alternate bull calls and rattling. But he wouldn’t come within sight and range. I finally resorted to moving in on him with bull calls and that fired him up real quick. He finally showed himself at 25 m, broadside. I let the arrow fly and made a textbook double lung shot. He only went about 20 m before crashed. It was my first harvest. That hunt had given me the confidence that what I was doing was right. Loved your vid! Keep em coming!

I love this channel. All of you are such good humans and it's enjoyable to follow along on your adventures. I have been disabled from a spine/spinal cord injury for about 11 years now. I have always wanted to learn to shoot a rifle and a bow and to go hunting (even with a rifle). As a single mom, I had always planned to get my daughter off to college and then I can start doing all the fun things I want to do. Well, she's been and finished college and I'm so proud of her, but these videos really make me itch or wish I had had a chance to at least develop the bow skills by now. There's a chance I could still learn to shoot a rifle if I wanted to (my upper body is fine as far as motion goes), but not a bow as I just don't have the strength required. Any-hoooooooo, great video. Congratulations Treavor! I love all of the BRO guys, but I have to say that I find the ones with Treavor in them to be amongst my favorite because of his sense of humour, etc. Heather🇨🇦

Good job Trevor. I had success pulling some elk off of private for my buddy this year . He was about 700 yards out. he closed the gap and came in, but had no shot. We were in an any elk unit and my friend was able to harvest a cow out of the herd since the bull never gave us the right opportunity.

I feel like seeing you finally be able to get a shot off at that elk was like watching a game winning shot or field goal. Being from Hawaii and having never hunted elk I can’t imagine the patience it took to wait for the elk to come up to you 800 yds. I have been following LOF from the very beginning and I feel like not many people would have been successful in that situation but you guys have proved over the years that you guys are clutch when it comes to closing the deal. Aloha Born and Raised Outdoors!! Mahalo for sharing your experiences🤙🏼

To call in a bull from over a 1/4 mile down the valley off of private & up to your feet is a proud feeling..!!! Idk what it was this year but I spent all month in Colorado calling them in... My 12yo son lives in CO so I wasn't worried about hunting this year, as we are preparing for next year and teaching him how to call/thermals/the ways of the Backcountry/ect.... But what a year to decide to NOT to bring my bow - covered in elk..!!!!

you guys are incredible and you rock. I don't even elk hunt (yet) but look forward to the new content weekly. My only one criticism would be to figure out a way to capture the whispering while in the field; I find myself constantly trying to lip read and feel like I am missing some great insight to the hunt (i do realize this is difficult), but it will go from whispering (my volume all the way up) then you guys bugling (blasting my ears out bc my volume is as high as it goes). I especially love the brotherhood and prayers leading out before the hunt!!!!!

Thermals don't "Blow downhill". Thermals are a cylindrical warm rising air mass. They need heating of the ground to form. Thermals are created by convection. The sun heats the ground. The ground heats the air above it. The warm air pools near the ground then something (wind, car, animal, break in terrain, etc.) will trigger a release and that air mass rises in a column. When that air hits the dew point, it creates a cloud. It's similar to if you were to grab a table cloth in the middle of the table and pull up on the center of it...It rises at the trigger point and pulls in everything around it. So there cannot be thermals without heating of the ground. Late in the day when the sun angle is lower, the air starts to sink because there isn't enough heating to make it rise. This is called Katabatic flow. Anabatic flow is when things are heating up and the thermals and air start rising. So from about 30min to an hour before sunset, the air will go katabatic until an hour or two after sunrise. Then it goes anabatic and you will have thermals. This all depends on sun angle in relation to the slope. So if you are hunting a shady side of the mtn, you may still have katabatic (sinking) air localized to that area. Hope this helps!
