I don't care what anyone says,We Came As Romans will always be my favorite band. This band has gotten me through so much. I was suicidal and I used to self harm, but We Came As Romans gave me a voice of hope when I felt like I couldn't speak. I am forever thankful to this band

slaythebaby having been there myself it can be for many different reasons but what a lot if people do not know is that the hormone released by the brain when you feel pain to dull or deal with (I don't remember exactly what all was said) the pain and it can be very addictive on top of the depression or whatever that persons reason may be for self harming which makes it even more difficult to stop. I apologize for the poor explanation I got that info from a shrink a few years ago and can't recall it all.

Why the hell is people crying that this is/isn't metal? Does it really fucking matter? If you only listen to one type of genre your whole life, you never experience the vast knowledge music can be made into. It shouldn't matter on the genre to not like something, it should matter if you like it, or not. Of you like something, because of the meaning behind the lyrics, the instrumental sound, or just the beat of a song, then in your eyes, it's good. It doesn't have to meet 'metal' criteria, for something to be good.

I totally agree. I grew up on hip hop and r&b. Listened to a lot of Modest Mouse in my junior high days as well as Imogen Heap, Frou Frou, and more. A lot of rap now days is full of shit that I've been searching for new music in different genres. Couldn't really label anything but great music.

Its weird how everyone is saying how different their music is. I'm pretty new to WCAR, but if you shuffle all three of their albums you find a decent mix of heavier and lighter songs- and they have great clean vocals, why put it to waste? Their lyrics are relatable, and metal is a mix of so many other sub/genres it shouldn't matter anymore. Sure I miss the depth their first album had, but I can just go listen to that if I want to.

I read the comments and I can't help but laugh. I have been listening to Punk, Hardcore, Death Metal, Metalcore and many of the other sub genres that fans have made up for almost 20 years, and I see people still having the same tired old argument that I saw back then. It is sad to see how people lash out at anything that dares to be different, or feel the need to defend their favorite band against those who dare speak against them. Hell even I found myself in the later category sometimes. For the most part though I have subscribed to the thought that if you like a band enjoy and support them no matter what anyone says or thinks, and if you don't like them the best action is to ignore them. Bands do not need us to defend them, and just ignore the ones you don't like because even negative publicity can be good sometimes. I can understand frustration when a band changes their style,especially when it is a radical change. Case and point one of my favorite bands of all time is Embodyment, check them out. Their first album Embrace the Eternal is to this day in my opinion one the best Death Metal/Metalcore albums ever made, but their second album was such a departure I quit listening. At a younger age I was quite vocal about how much I hated that, and so were my friends but now I look back and I realize the more I just try to hold on to the old I am cheating myself out of experiencing something new. If you don't like the change in something that is fine just don't close yourself off from trying something different. Change in music is constant, and I love the stuff I grew up with, but I also look forward to what is coming down the road.

On the topic of this band and song.We Came As Romans isn't my cup of tea, and I know that there are a ton of bands sounding like this now, I still enjoy listening to them every now and then. My heart is still Hardcore, but the genre is in decline. I miss bands like Shockwave, No Innocent Victim,Donnybrook,Crowns of Kings,Figure Four, and Seventh Star. There is still some good Hardcore out there it's just harder to find.Like I said not my favorite style but I can enjoy something different from time to time.

WeCAR is one of the bands that got me into this genre. The contrast they present between the heavy and the clean is phenomenal. The fact that Kyle is not going to be a part of this, to me, takes away a part of that contrast. Rest in peace, Kyle. We Came As Romans really did sell out. I rarely if ever say that about bands, but I believe it's true in this case. I preordered Tracing Back Roots, and have listened to it extensively since then, but I really can't enjoy it. It's nothing at all like their first two albums. The music has been stripped down, the tunes have been made simpler and more catchy, the tones have been lightened, and the vocals have been softened. Everything about the album just screams that it was made to appeal to more mainstream fans instead of pleasing those that loved the darkness and relative heaviness of the first albums. I'll probably stop listening to the band's future material unless they drastically change back to what they were like before.

But you cannot say for certain that they sold out. Even if they change their genre entirely to rap, you cannot say that they sold out, even if more than likely they did. The only ones that can say they sold out are themselves, because selling out is a choice. No matter what direction their music takes, you will never be able to say, "Yep, they sold out.", because you don't know why they changed direction. However, I do thank you for being completely respectful and going about this in a logical manner. That's not something I see often.
