The ‘salted caramel’ taste in the cendol comes from gula melaka, which is palm sugar. Y’al should try going up to penang hill, visit some durian plantations and try the red prawn durian (in season maybe in may-June) and Batu Ferringhi (a beach). Chew Jetty is also a unique spot in Georgetown too.

In Penang state they spoke Hokkien dialect. In Kuala Lumpur Cantonese dialect. Although Mandarin is rather widely spoken & understood .
@WisdomRose Жыл бұрын
Yup. Mandarin is even taught in schools (in Malaysia and Singapore) instead of Cantonese or Hokkien. So if you don't speak either Cantonese or Hokkien, but as long as you know Mandarin, you can pretty much get around in most parts of Malaysia that have significant Chinese populations since the majority of them will know Mandarin in addition to their native dialect. However, there are many amongst the younger generations (such as myself) who only know Mandarin and not so much of the other Chinese dialects. I can get around well in Mandarin, but my Cantonese is pretty bad and my Hokkien is non-existent, despite being primarily of Hokkien descent myself.

Always state where you want to go on your trishaw ride, and always bargain for better value. Anyways, that trishaw uncle won't be getting any more business from KZbinrs from now on though. Anyways, its nice of you guys to be so patient with these bad apples!😅

It's too bad that happened but it's all part of any tourist experience. We just wanted to share the reality of it. We didn't hide the fact that we were filming...

Like Romanians on the road said last year, it is always the old uncles and aunties who are the worst scammers. Because of their experience and they cannot be bothered with self dignity because of their age.

@Flora and Note Yup, like I always say when travelling, "You win some, you lose some!" It's something you learn through your experiences. 😅✌️

😄😄😄 Rickshaw's used to be a cheaper mode of transport in most Asian countries, however in recent times, most tourists have turned it into some sort of joyride/sightseeing tour thing and the rickshaw operators have realized this and started to overprice the ride. You should have been more brutal with the rickshaw rider when he tried to rip you off and just tell him you are paying $25 instead of the $50 because you only got a 15min ride instead of 30mins. Sounds harsh to do this, but unfortunately they prey on the "niceness" of most tourist as they know most will still see this as only a small sum of money...... and by the way, the Curry Noodles from that shop is my wife's favourite. On our last trip there, she insisted on going there nearly every morning for breakfast, knocking down 2 bowls each time...
