@@voidisyinyangvoidisyinyang885 Great Comment! It is time for people to face up to the reality of what has and is happening to the Biome rapidly largely if not exclusively at the hands of rich western countries that only really began using fossil fuels about 300 years ago. Guy McPherson is a wonderful source but I do believe Post-doom conversations with Michael Dowd is even more helpful. kzbin.info Humans really need to face the facts! The Grieving process is critical for mental health, and both of these gentlemen along with many other folks are not in denial of what greedy humans have done to the biome! Absurdism (one of the most popular forms of nihilism) for example, is a belief that all meaning to be found in life is arbitrary and will lead you no where, so people are better off to do as they please, living the best life they can, because regardless of whether you waste your life or not, it will mean nothing in the end, so you might as well make it as happy and fulfilling as possible. basically nihilism is not pessimism

Volunteer in a sector of society that you can relate to. Whether it be a community garden, homeless or animal shelter or community organizing, etc. Whatever you feel passionate about. It is harder now than in the past because our society is so divided and there are some who's goal in life is only to sow the seeds of fear and hate to keep that wedge between us. But the ratio of good to bad people is still in our favor. Be informed, but don't watch too much news. I found it just puts me in too dark a place. And remember, in a long enough timeline, we win. I remember learning "united we stand, divided we fall", from early in my life. Whatever powers that be, in this country and world, have done an excellent job of sowing distention and division among our citizenry. I liked Robert Reich's video on how far the extremes on the left and right of our political spectrum have moved in the last 50 years. I remember Dwight Eisenhower's comment about the extreme left and the extreme right is always wrong. Looking back to the marriage of the political right and the Christian community, the right has moved massively farther than the left. As the Rev Billy Graham noted, the only thing that the political right wanted from Christians, was the ability to exploit them. 40 years on from Jerry Falwell and the Moral Majority, we are seeing the results of their doctrines. We have our problems as a country, but nobody can even reason with these people when they believe they are doing the will of God by imposing their beliefs on everyone else.

Not being someone who lives in the U.S., I really feel that I don't have any right to comment on, or criticize the politics there. As a close neighbor to the North, I can't help but feel terrified by what I've seen. I remember watching the U.S. elections that put the former president into the White House. I remember watching, and cringing, as he predatorily followed and mocked his rival during the "debates". I remember feeling a great disappointment as I watched Mr. Sanders being brushed aside and ridiculed as being a "socialist', when in fact, Bernie Sanders was the only one within that group of individuals, who actually spoke the truth. Yeah, for me, that's when the "doomerism" kicked in. To this day, that former "leader of the 'free' world", has yet to answer for the damage he's done. To this day, laws are being written by the deck he stacked. To this day, the ripples of the hateful splash he created, continue to wash over the borders, bolstering the same kinds of people to act out in horrible ways. The former president, in my opinion, continues to pose not only a clear and present danger to the U.S., but to the entire planet. As a young person, I thought living in the U.S. would be a dream come true. Now, I'm glad I stayed right here. But now, I'm also afraid of having to live so close. "The American Dream", sadly, seems to have turned into a nightmare. Mr. Sanders, I truly wish you all the best, but I fear your words can't seem to break through the overwhelming, and deafening, cacophony of corporate greed. The "great experiment" of capitalism has become an uncontrollable beast. How do you go after a small percentage of people who can, on their own, afford to buy their own army to rival the nation's? Not to mention the militant individuals who fight against gun control in order to be able to hold on to their personal stash of assault weapons, as well as what ever other machines of destruction they may have acquired. These are indeed "troubled times". With you, Mr. Sanders, I can see a dim twinkle of hope, but the darkness has become embedded, it seems. Again, I wish you all the best.

Beautifully said, Jerry. As a "dual" , I have lived in both the U.S. and Canada. The old saying "When the U.S. sneezes, Canada gets pneumonia" holds a lot of truth. Bernie Sanders is the most courageous, compassionate leader America has produced in the last century, the best President America could have. Between Canada and the U.S., it should be possible to turn the tide against the encroaching Fascism of the extreme right wing forces that menace our Democracies. True Allies, working together, can accomplish what each alone cannot. But it requires courage to oppose Fascists devoted to force and opposed to reason. Senator Sanders, Senator Whitehouse, and others in both the Senate and House are trying to turn back the Fascist Tide. We must do the same in Canada in all our Ridings and give the Liberal/NDP Commons the backbone it needs to stand against the Fascist Putsch. Active support for Democracy is our only justification for hope..

After 9/11, the passing of The Patriot Act, the invasion of Iraq and Afghanistan, and eight years of George W. Bush, the person who promised hope and change was Barack Obama. Not only did he fail to deliver, he escalated two insurgency wars into seven costing trillions, failed to regulate reckless banks resulting in an economic crash, he allowed banks repossessing homes and casting millions of Americans onto the the streets, he bailed the banks out with trillions of taxpayer dollars, hamstrung Bernie Sanders in two elections, and endorsed the likes of Hillary Clinton and Joe Biden. What is being experienced now is a knock-on compounding effect from the Bush/Obama administrations. The Doomerism that left deep cracks in the foundation of America happened long before "The Bad Orange Man" sat in The Oval Office. Those crack have now widened to the point of imminent collapse, which is what's happening now.

Native American Tribes elected their oldest , wisest , and most humble people to be their Chiefs! I have always respected the Iroquois Tribe! If the Warriors wanted to go to war they had to petition the Council of Elder Women, the Grandmothers."We bring life into this world. We decide when it leaves"! Talk about respecting WOMEN! The Iroquois were NOT AFRAID to acknowledge the power of the female! Unlike the white culture! 🦅🪶🦅🪶🦅🪶🪔🪶🪔🪔🪔🪔

I love you so much Bernie. I never had a strong male role model in my life as a kid after my "Great Gen" grandfather died in '92, but over the years, I've started thinking of you as my "E-grandpa". As someone who reads & studies history a lot, I'm very appreciative for your comments. You've lived through more challenging events than all of us. 1968 alone must have seemed like end times....but you never quit. You never gave up...no matter how hard it got. After the 2016 election, Clinton just disappeared, made excuses and quit. But you didn't. You kept fighting for us. We see it and we thank you for your service. DJ Glass Alaska, USA

My problems are that right now most politicians in both parties are advocates of increased military spending both at home and overseas, and the current administration's foreign policies are driving up inflation. For me peace -- and not peace based on nuclear superiority or sending arms to other countries -- is essential for optimism.

I feel your pain, that is why I wonder why the Hell we are FORCED to live in this unfair World at all costs, only to postpone the inevitable. Why?! Are we that sadistic that we must savor every last minute possible of our life's suffering? What we desperately need is a universal compassionate euthanasia program. I am more than ready to go out like Edward G. Robinson's character did in the role he portrayed in the 1973 movie Soylent Green. A compassionate euthanasia program will be the ONLY thing that gives me hope!!

No, you don't. The US constitution barely changed throughout its history, and the only time the US battled with itself and changed the course of its politics is when it decided to end slavery within its borders to support slavery outside its borders only, and to solve some economical clashes between the South and the North. It's just not in the culture of american people to unite through a common idea, and to revolutionize its ways. The US was founded on a totally opposite ideal: given how that patch of land seemed so large, so bountiful, the goal was that people could find a way to live by themselves, for themselves, in isolation of institutions and ideologies that would threaten their way to live. It was and will remain, ideologically, until its collapse, the land of the free, for the better and of course for the worse.
