Pouring concrete floors after the house is built is a lot more work. Leaving us little to no access requires us to use multiple chutes, like in this case, or a pump truck that requires extra man power.
You should expect to pay more to have your concrete poured and finished in these instances.
The only access on this pour was through a hole in the deck. If the floor were larger we would have called a pumper truck but since it was quite small we just used our chutes.
You can see how much extra work it requires to move around the chutes, even on a small pour like this. Then, after the pour, you have to leave a 2nd person just to help move the power trowel onto the floor. This is really a one person finishing job but with the bad access, two people now have to stay and finish the concrete.

I have done a lot of basements with no access over the years ! Mostly new homes and builders arent keen on paying for pumps so we had to be creative with getting the concrete where we needed it !

Don't you guys ever use the trailer pumps (line pumps)?? I used to use those 16 ft chute's 20 yrs ago. Wouldn't even dream of it today..

@@MR-gp9ys ignorant comment, you don’t even have a basic understanding of business economics. Real simple example, you pay $1000 for the pump to save two hours of labor at $100.00 per hour. $800 difference which can be used to lower your bid to beat the competitors and get the job.

Why do so many contractors wait to the last minute to put the floors in last? Of course they don't care. If they had to do it by hand that would change their tune.

Great video! So I was having trouble hearing what y’all were saying. Did you order an extra yard and just made it? I’ve been noticing that a lot of companies are getting shorted. Even my self. What I’ve been doing is calling dispatch, telling them the square footage and the amount of concrete that I figured, and then asked them to calculate what they come up with, and then add a half yard. Something is going on, I don’t remember running short so many times. What’s your opinion on that, Mike? Thank you for sharing, I really enjoy your work and videos

Yes, I ordered an extra yard and still almost ran short. I've run short a few times this year already. Usually only happens once a year. Not sure what's happening this year.

Framers own the builders in most cases and aren’t going to wait for the in ground plumbing and concrete guy to show up.

Don't really need it as rebar is there to keep pieces together if/when they crack. This is usally due to settlement issues with the subgrade. Also, this slab is enclosed, so it's likely the only movement broken pieces could make would be downward if the subgrade gave way. Easily replaceable.
