And that points to a world that is a bit too might makes right for my taste. Minfilia does not have to be powerful to give orders. The other Scions follow her due to who she is as a person, not because her numbers are biggest.

RE: the Tataru sidequest, one of the unfortunate casualties of the ARR quest cleanup was a few sidequests for her where she tried out other jobs to shore up the Scions' straining finances, most notably being a miner. Unfortunately it ended up with her getting chased around by morbols and needing rescuing. The Arcanist training that's still in the game was kinda the wrap up for her arc. The cleanup was justified and much needed, but I do kinda miss little things like that. It turned a character I was determined to resent into a fave.

Most people discount how much adding flying to the ARR zones like half-way through Shadowbringers' life-cycle made the post-ARR stuff more bearable. Different people have different problem areas with ARR. Some people like the patch quests because more primals to fight & they like Moogle Mog, some have a lot of issues around pre-Titan fetch quests, and people like Asmon who don't get easily bogged down with the grind don't have issues with any of it. Long time players almost all have at least some friends who have tried and dropped the game in ARR before what we consider to be FFXIV's real good story; hence trying to preface talking about ARR to new people. If you get to the end of ARR patch quests, you're headed to Heavensward and we don't need to worry about it any more.

Yeah but the issue is that we don't ever SEE her be good at that. Even before she's gone, but especially after, we see so much of the behind the scenes work that Tataru does as an also non-combatant, so Tataru never feels useless in the same way Minfilia did, because we don't ever really see her do anything useful and her only actual plot relevance is when she's captured (again), to the point where it feels like her ONLY talent is being a damsel in distress. Spoiler for later expansions: It doesn't help that the Scions become incredibly more important and influental in late HW, SB and EW, making her look even worse at her job in retrospect because the Scions basically only begin to thrive and gain a lot more influence once she's gone xD She has her moments in HW and ShB and I think they work in her favour specifically _because_ they change her role and capabilities.

So you have a heavy western influence during the buildup and into the expansion itself. For all the hit or miss stuff in the patch quests it is far more coherent in HW. The ARR post-patches lay the groundwork for a lot of what comes after. As the team transitions from telling the story through questing to telling the story through scenarios/trials/dungeons/relic weapons etc they become better story-tellers but this is the story. These patches introduce the Doman conflict, the Dragonsong War, the Weapons series, the Aetherial sea, Ala Mhigo, Ascians, White Aurecite, the primal rules, like if you did not like the story-telling it does get better but if you aren't into the story... this is the story. Also, the game has cutscenes in the first few levels where a scion (who specifically changes depending on your starting city) uses and loudly explains the purpose of the goggles -- and it's comedically clear.

The term "anime aestethic" always annoy me. As someone who watched a lot of anime, i know what most people see when they say that is one of the most popular anime, maybe One Piece or Naruto, or maybe even Attack on Titan. But anime being an art there is a lot of different aesthetic and some anime have some more realistic/grounded style compared to other. It's like saying something has a "painting aesthetic" when painting goes all the way from Van Gogh to Picasso and even include some art piece you would have hard time distinguishing from a photo.

@@Marekthejester Nobody implies that all anime looks the same, but the style IS distinctive enough in 95% of cases to be labeled thus without any problems (the range of "painting", as per your example, is MUCH more varied and broad, by comparison). Your understanding of the Scion Goggles is correct. They're of Sharlyan design. Sharlyan is the island country to the far North, off the western coast. It's modeled after Greece, but snowy. I like to call it the country of Super Nerds. (Ha!) Great job on yoru predictions. In many ways, the story is predictable if you pay attention. Maybe you only get a few quests headsup, but you can predict it. It's great, though, because the story will still surprise you in execution or in spectacle. It's satisfying to see a story played our properly, too. If you don't pay attention, you simply get more surprises! Which is also great.

So I never had the opportunity to see if it was still in the game when I played during 4.1 or so being the live patch, but word is that if you went around the cities after the end-of-ARR cutscene and talked to NPC's, the regular folks are all 'we don't believe you did it' and the police/military folks are 'you would tear me apart if I tried to take you in', which I thought was a neat way of addressing your status as an accused of regicide.

I'm glad yous are keeping an open mind about alphinaud. He's a very easy character to hate going into HW but he starts pulling his weight a lot after the series of events in 2.X.

Enjoy hearing your perspectives, and happy you are enjoying the game! A side quest chain to try out at some point is the hildebrand quests. Can't remember where they start( i think uldah), but it's a treat for sure :)

Can't wait for next week's video to drop when I'm in the middle of watching this video already lol. It feels SO exciting to look forward to logging into a mmo. I love that feeling too. And yeah, about our Alphi boy? I was chatting with my husband the other day before Endwalker (who also plays 14) and we were shocked to realise that we see Alphi as our BFF amongst the scions already. Lol

Congrats! Yeah no one really mentions the slog of ARR patch content because by that point people usually power through it. (And I suspect, most people block it from memory.) In my case, I actually didn't know about the crystal tower raids being required until the game forced me to stop with the MSQ to do them. This was very frustrating, but ended up being worth it as you can guess. Also welcome to poker-face land. The further you go the less you can talk about in the presence of new players. Soon you will know the horrors of hearing someone say, "I really like Moenbryda! She's really cool!" and having to keep a straight face.

they did do something for there being an arrest warrant on you. When you speak to certain guards who would be likely to recognize you, such as the Braves in Revenant's Toll, they have some flavour about liking their continued survival a bit too much to try and apprehend you.

I’m a Ninja main myself. I had relied on stealth to get through areas with risky creatures. You guys would have suffered waiting through Patches 2.1 to 2.55 when it was released. It was nerve racking because you were just on the edge of your seat back then waiting for new content. When playing as a Ninja, stealth was your friend in Heavensward. At least for me.

Nice, ARR took me over 100 hours to get through, due to leveling different jobs, exploring and such. Now I'm in the limbo quests between arr and heavensward, but I haven't been able to log in to get there. Good luck on your journey.

If you go to Ul'dah post ARR/beginning of HW and talk to some of the guards they are either scared to do anything about you or don't care enough to do anything iirc. Also, the animations do significantly improve around the time they dropped PS3 support.
@xenomemphate2 жыл бұрын
Make sure you speak to NPCs gathered around the quest NPC. They often have interesting things to say, especially the other "main characters" journeying with you. Also, you mentioned that after the ending, you went back to Ul'dah to see if you could still access the shops and things - speaking to NPCs there, you can get an idea for why you are allowed to freely walk around - you can even speak to the Crystal Braves stationed in Mor Dhona.

Grats on finishing ARR. Now you get to start having fun with the good part of the game. Not that ARR was horrible. But everything from now on is just so much better. And I know there’s a lot of quests in the patch content. But, at least you can take comfort to know that it was recently toned down and a lot of the stuff was cut out. So it’s not as much of a slog as it used to be. And you mentioned an increase in quality once you get into the first expansion. That’s definitely true. I’m sure it’s been said countless times but ARR was done very quickly with a limited budget while they were still supporting the original game. Then for the first expansion they had a more focused team, definitely a bigger budget. They were able to secure better voice acting. It’s almost like a RR kind of really sets the stage for what the rest of the game is in terms of the story but if you ever go back and play through the original ARR after you get done doing the expansions the difference is like night and day. Also keep in mind that the original game and heavensward were designed around the limitations of the PS3 hardware. Once you start getting into 4.0 and beyond, the PS3 is no longer in it so you’ll definitely notice differences. It’s gonna be fun to watch as you progress. I’m looking forward to seeing your thoughts on things.

When I beat ARR, I went back to Ul Dah in a cloak then realized that the free fantasia may be so you can change your appearance to go back to the three city-states. That's when I went from Hyur to catboy and never looked back.

About the cities not doing anything to you if you show up they actually give you an explanation in Heavensward, also talk to any of the guild masters for the base classes you did & talk to some people in Mor Dhona it’s actually hilarious to see their reactions to you being there

Did you guys know that about a year ago they actually removed about 30 quests from the post arr content? Before there was 100 quests. Now iirc there is around 70. My discord affectionately call the post arr patch part of the game the "Mor Dhona Pack mule arc"

Yep, post ARR patches contains quite a bit of cool bits here and there, specifically the ending, but maaaaaaaaaaan most of it is pure HELL lmao. But hey, it only gets better from here! p.s. about the facial animation, it does improve, massively even. BUT the *dramatic* changes occur on Stormblood I think.
@ansalem122 жыл бұрын
I kinda feel like the part where you go stand around in the desert works better as gameplay than it would as a cinematic because you turn your brain off from the dullness so the twist is more likely to surprise you. At least for me I think that's what happened, anyway. If I'd been watching it happen instead of doing it I'm pretty confident I would've seen where it was headed but I didn't see it coming at all.

I think that most people find that ARR up to Praetorium is 'fine' or even 'good' until they start getting into the expansions and understand what was missing from them. I still think ARR is fine, it's just that I'll tell people it's 'fine, but...'. The show season analogy really is perfect because it really does feel like the first season of a show which sets a lot of important stuff up and is probably worth watching for that reason, but isn't the reason everyone is telling you to play the game. The game hasn't really found its voice yet, but it will.
