Team 1 here - we had a lovely leisurely day, no running at all, reasonable connections (as the central line shat itself behind us) - a very enjoyable day out!

5:29 surprised you didn't have to run at Ealing Common, that change used to be on my commute and you either saw a train as you came south through the junction or had to run over the bridge to avoid a 10 minute wait.

10:35: from this list we can deduce that team 13 caught 12 and 11, all arriving 1 train after 8. Before 8 by 11 trains was 9, and on the preceding train 7, who had the most prisoners, having taken all of teams 6-3. 2 arrived 2 trains before them, and 1 did spectacularly well to arrive 11 trains earlier.

Close. The start times were as close to every 10 minutes as we could get, but the Piccadilly Line had a few delays at the start, and the actual start time was what counted. So teams 8, 11, 12 and 13 all finished on the same train; teams 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 and 9 all finished on the same train (as you can see in the video - Nick and Omari were team 6); team 2 were indeed not far in front of them (not sure how many trains but it was about 8 minutes), and team 1 were much earlier after having an excellent run. (The graph is mine btw. You do not want to know how long it took me to sit with the spreadsheet and work it all out after the fact 😂)

Looks like great fun. With the withdrawal of the all zone day railcard, will this challenge be possible without incurring a penalty charge by being 'inside' the system for so many hours without tapping out?
@MercenaryPen
@MercenaryPen 8 ай бұрын
considering the delays at Holborn and West Ham (particularly West Ham) your efforts were fairly competitive with teams further up the leaderboard... I see it as quite possible that if the delay at West Ham hadn't happened you might have made it past the central line section before the events that suspended service on that part of the route

I've never heard of this particular challenge before. Do you all get together to agree a route or what? Is it always the same route? Also I'm guessing you had to exit stations two or three times to avoid maximum fares due to the maximum allowed journey time. Completing the whole thing in 6 to 7 hours, I'm guessing you could do it as three, possibly four "journeys". It would be cool to work out the cheapest way to do it. For sure you would not hit the daily cap if you planned your exit/entry strategy well.

So, at Kings Cross/St Pancras you can choose to go via Euston or direct? @3:09 map.
@bigdmcc1
@bigdmcc1 8 ай бұрын
No, you had to go via Euston, but you could use the Victoria Line from Kings Cross to Warren Street instead of changing at Euston. (The rules specified the stations and the order, not the lines you have to use.)

6:30 This is the spot where my own Tube Challenge unravelled a little. Well a lot actually and I had barely started. When I arrived at Rayners Lane after a walk/jog from North Harrow there was a Met line train waiting for me. However instead of rejigging the plan, I chose to panic and go back to Rayners Lane for a Piccadilly. Only to get off the Piccadilly line train! I then discovered there wasn't anymore so I did what I should have done and got a Metropolitan train. I then made my situation worse by not getting a c2c at Upminster, meaning that I had bled too much time in the morning. The result being when I finally arrived at Cockfosters it was 10:20pm so I decided to call it there. It was a brilliant day though

What's the difference between the snake challenge and tube challenge
@LynxEE20
@LynxEE20 8 ай бұрын
The Tube Challenge is all 272 stations in the quickest time possible via any route you want. The Snake Challenge is a pre set route over any given distance covering the required stations within, in the quickest time, and whilst trying to catch the teams in front but not be caught by the teams behind.

Kinda spoiled it when nearly all the teams caught up with each other. Next time, it could be made more interesting by having it timed, and half the teams doing the challenge in the opposite direction.
@CoastwayWill
@CoastwayWill 8 ай бұрын
There were 2 factors to going in the same direction 1) Starting at Heathrow T5 gave teams a consistent 10 minute gap to start 2) Getting caught/catching teams is fun :)
