His subject matter is by default entertaining though, so that is what keeps him from being hugely more difficult than Nile's work.

I feel like William is right when it comes to certain types of videos. People like having conflict in their entertainment for sure. But there's also a market for more peaceful entertainment. I mean, look at slice of life anime. If there are conflicts then they're usually not very stressful or important and most of the entertainment comes from eliciting positive emotions without the need for negative emotions. Kind of like "giving snakes there legs back." There wasn't really conflict in that video. It was just funny and adorable. That's just my take, anyhow.

To be hones, that is exactly why I don't like slice-of-life anime/social drama shows (besides considering it cringey a lot of the time) and a major factor which makes me put down a book I started; nothing happens. I don't want to watch or read something that only entails the tedium of daily life, I want to see robots fighting planets or read about an intergalactic pirate heistt

@@phillipmaciejewski9872 That's legit. I used to not like slice-of-life anime for a long time but I've watched a few now that I enjoy. It's more like watching a comedy/romance. Most slice of life hinge on one of those genres. Definitely not for everyone but it has a large enough audience. I still mostly watch plot and action oriented shows but I'll watch the occasional Kobayashi's Dragon Maid or Way of The House Husband for some fun low-steaks laughs.

Will if you really need a spin for the CT scanner project you could probably do something in the vein of “I built a CT scanner to spoil all my Christmas presents” or something. I think there’s a lot of us that enjoy the process just as much if not more as the actual spin/goal. Also, if the reconstruction ends up being an issue for you you might be able to look up what kinds of open source code exists in the medical imaging physics sphere. It’ll probably be in matlab but if it’s published it should give pretty good results

There is also an article from the "Things i wont work with" blog about small smelly isocyanides. This description of n-butly isocyanide from 1937 sounds really bad Butyl isocyanide proved to be so disagreeable to manipulate that none of its physical constants except boiling point were determined. Even when a hood with an extra forced draft was used, the odor pervaded the laboratory and adjoining rooms, deadening the sense of smell and producing in the operator, and in others, severe headaches and nausea which usually persisted for several days.

51:00 Might be thinking of a sugar shack. It's usually when the sugar maple sap runs in spring, when it finally gets above freezing during the day. There's maple taffy (thick syrup over ice/snow, rolled up with a popsicle stick). The breakfast buffet is also a big feature of it: pancakes, scrambled eggs, bacon, sausages, maple beans. It's a springtime ritual for places where sugar maples grow. Sugaring off could also be referring to going to someone's middle of the bush shack, only accessible by skidoos. As an excuse to get wasted with the squad and crash somewhere in the dead of winter. Sometimes, ice fishing is involved and it's an ice shack/shack on the ice. If you want dead of winter: eastern Canada, February. There's also winterlude.

I've been waiting to see if Nigel would finally tackle the big stink of lore, thioacetone. Honestly, it is technically possible to do without getting evicted, if you take the right precautions. Like...making it in the middle of freakin' nowhere. Lotta empty space in Canada, so it's possible to make it in a rural area with hundreds of kilometers of wilderness downwind. I hope he does it...it would be really interesting to see how true the stories are...some of them sound like urban legends, but maybe not. Only one way to find out.

@@lastwymsi I know. But some of the stories about thioacetone are truly bewildering. It seems to be on a completely other level from any other odoriferous compound. Like, the times whole neighbourhoods or even towns were (apparently) evacuated because one bottle was opened briefly in a lab, causing vomiting and other symptoms perhaps hundreds of meters away. Or the speed of its propagation from source to nose, which is almost certainly exaggerated...but it could still be fairly high. And obviously, the effects appear to be downright nefarious - if a smell can drive you insane, this is the smell. Or...so we're led to believe. That's why I'm curious. Because Nigel almost has to take all of the stories as provisionally true, lest he piss off thousands of people and maybe get arrested. If the claims have been embellished, well, no harm no foul...but if they're true, you don't want to be the guy who stink-bombed Montréal.

Peeing outside is such a common thing basically anywhere that it snows, in northern Wisconsin it's super common for dudes to just not use their toilets to pee and ALWAYS go outside. Like you'll be outside and ask if you can use their bathroom and they'll ask if its #1 or #2 and if its #1 they'll direct you to the designated piss tree. To be fair it does keep the toilets a lot cleaner.

The automated caller used in call centers waits for you to say hello (waits for a noise other then dial tone) and then connects the call center staff, and yes they want to waste your time but as soon as you waiste theirs it costs the company money so they disconnect
