Don’t know why they wanted to use the gravel in the first place but if they had to use it, why install it on a slope (they themselves said use on a slope is bad).

First sign of trouble: client has no idea about plants. They want to plant not just one but ten trees close to the house in that square courtyard... hope there’s no water/other utility lines and the trees chosen don’t interfere with the foundation. Similar with the two pin oaks. Then there was the business with swapping trees and “these trees are wimpy” ... more money than brains and trying to even the score.

That's not what I call an English garden! But it's really beautiful and completely breaks up the original monstrous entrance and front garden. I loved the courtyard garden but down the line, that's a Lot of big trees and roots So incredibly close to the house. I do hope that they enjoy the garden now though 💖

No, Its nothing like an English garden ! BUT its better than some of your other gardens as in the regimented straight line plantings ! Try planting in groups of three or fives of each plant :)

Whenever a contractor starts a statement with, "No matter how much you plan...," or something to that effect, get a new contractor. What that contractor is REALLY saying is, "we haven't anticipated everything that might happen with this project." It doesn't mean everything can not be anticipated, it means that they have NOT completely done their jobs. Except for, maybe, weather, everything may be anticipated and plans may be made to deal with any problems. With the accuracy of today's meteorology, even the weather may be predicted to a high level of assurance.
