Cracking video boys. I was lucky enough to be part of a 5 man 1 dog team, that completed the West Highland Way in the last week of May 23. We submitted Ben on 31st of May. I've watched so many videos of summits after, everytime putting myself back on an amazing trip. Solo camping all the way. Loved the pointing at the snow, 'say no more'. What a play ground it was. We stayed at the summit for the sun downer. Looking forward to watching your other videos. Cheers. Well done. 🏴.... p.s. we eat quite well here in 🏴😂

Thanks to the lads here for giving a very down to earth, real assessment of going up Ben Nevis. I did it with my 14 Yr old son (54 meself) in the aftermath of Storm Betty, so....the weather was pure Bum 2/3 up and 3/4 down. However, I remembered the calm comments from the guys and kept it going. Physically, it was fine but weather wise...pffff. Great assessment up and down for preparation. Thanks!

Thought long and hard about posting because its a fantastic video and great for mr/mrs average planning to go. Think I first climbed 35 years ago. I think the waterfall shortcut was THE route, but erosion had scarred it, even making it dangerous. It was closed off and signs erected both ends explaining the reason why. Its very possible the signs were vandalised when you were up. They seem to only last a year or two. Not you're fault and especially viewed from the Red Burn ( halfway) look a very sensible short cut. But please don't Happier note, aye you can safely drink the water from the red burn, just check no ones having a piddle 20 feet above! I wish you could have done it 10 years ago, that sturdy wooden bridge was a very basic, shaky pre fabricated aluminium effort, used to frighten the life out my wife. Thanks guys for a great video Hope you come back, Maybe do Carn Mor Dearg route? I think the banter would be Fantastic!
@SummitOrNothing4 жыл бұрын
Hi Sean - thanks for watching! I think that shortcut certainly looked a lot shorter than it felt. Great to hear some insight into the mountains past - and I can imagine that a rickety old metal bridge probably would have freaked me out too haha. Thanks for watching and really glad that that you enjoyed the video. We hope to get back to Scotland before too long, maybe spend three or four days up there next time and not be so rushed.

This should be a Public Information Film about climbing Ben Nevis - anyone thinking about it should see this. People really underestimate Ben Nevis. It is a proper mountain - shown by the snow still on the ground when you were there. I think the most dangerous thing is the nickname "flip-flop route" yeah if you are a serious mountaineer it probably is but for most people it's not.
@StreakyP4 жыл бұрын
Absolutely fantastic video guys. It really shows off our Scottish mountains to their best, their beauty & what fun they can be. I do have one negative comment though, PLEASE change your channel name.. it is dangerous!!!!.. I'm not actually being flippant I'm serious... It is not summit or nothing but listen to the weather that keeps you alive. EVERY winter we get people who have driven 400miles to get to the hills with the summit or bust attitude and are not going to let the weather stop them (university climbing clubs tend to be the most macho and worst). EVERY year less go home than arrive (but we want you to keep coming back). There are times when the weather makes it necessary to say "not today Josephine" & that isn't any slur on your masculinity. On the Cairngorms & Ben Nevis you can basically basically navigate from "a guy died there last year and over there a few years before". Summit or nothing against the Scottish weather isn't a winner in the long term.
@SummitOrNothing4 жыл бұрын
Hi Ian - I agree with your sentiment, but if anyone is familiar with our channel they will know that we are not risk takers like that - we are not here to promote blazing up the mountains for a bit of a laugh - and I don't think that any of that you mention who are doing so have been encouraged to do so by us! I am that cautious that I have so far avoided any ridge routes up these mountains. The title is just literally a play on words, and is what singles us apart from other "Outdoors" channels, so we won't be changing it! In our videos, a Nothing is when we have had sence enough to turn back, which is something that we are not afraid to do when the weather or conditions are against us. But thank you for watching and really glad that you enjoyed the video.

for perspective we drove 2500 miles from boston to Montana one summer.Went for a hike in the grand tetons, we parked the car at 10,000 feet and started from there.30 minutes later it went from warm late summers day to 6 inches of snow squall.We turned around and ran into hail stones as big as golf balls.I came to the US from Manchester UK and found the west to be overwhelming to the point I just turned it off.I would much prefer to hike around kinder scout and Cheshire than the American west.At the end of my garden is 130 miles of the wildest thick forests swamp and countless rivers that is pure madness to venture into, in winter they can do it on snowmobiles but there are no hiking trails.I'd take the English countryside any day.I live a hundred miles north of montreal.Right now its zero F outside. 2 feet of snow expected , winter advisory in effect.And I ask myself what the hell am I doing here. oh well.

Wow... That is some wilderness on your doorstep. I must say that even our drive from Cornwall to Scotland is small potatoes to some journeys around the world and your example just goes to show.
