Anybody who arrives at the South Rim overlook in the middle of the day will be disappointed. With the sun over your shoulder as you look north, the light flattens the ridgelines, making it look like a postcard of itself. The Canyon is best seen during the hours around dawn and sunset, when the sun is in the east and west. That light transforms the scene into countless layers of depth, line and space. Better luck next time.

Good to know. We found the hardest part was scope. It's so hard to fathom the canyon that the mind can't wrap around it enough to appreciate it. I think maybe had we seen it this way, it would be different.

Wow, what a great episode! I’m in awe of your planning and organizational skills. Sad to see that you had a less than wonderful time there. We took our ‘79 Scamp to the Grand Canyon in 2012. We spent two nights and three days at Desert View Campground there. For us it was wonderful, two adults and no children.(we have no kids). We took the motorcycle for a ride along the South Rim road, and every evening the Park Rangers had a presentation at the edge of the Canyon. Wishing you all well, and Happy Camping!

Ok seriously now I’ve worked in television for 17 years at a top 100 market CBS affiliate. If you don’t start submitting your videos to production houses in California then I will. Hi. We enjoy your videos, please keep posting. We are planning to get a Scamp 13 with bathroom and we are unsure to include an A/C. Does your Scamp have A/C? and if it has then do you actually use it? Thanks.
@ladyandthescamp2 жыл бұрын
We do have A/C but did not choose it. We used it three times in 25 days on our trip. And maybe a couple before that. We don't really see a need for it because we don't usually travel in the hottest parts of the country, and when we do, we just get an airbnb due to the cost of some of the hipcamps and electical camping spots. I have thought about ripping it off many times. But, if you plan to travel where there will be power (we boondock a lot), and in parts of the country when it's hot, it might work for you. We find it an expensive waste.

Do you use the refrigerator much when you’re on the road if you have access to electricity at campgrounds? Also, do you put much water in the fresh water tank when traveling? I trying to figure out how this all works when I pick up my new Scamp in the next few weeks.
@ladyandthescamp2 жыл бұрын
I almost never use the fridge for long trips. Too much propane and a cooler works fine for us. I wouldn’t have bought a fridge if I could have chosen. We only put fresh water in when we are near water sources.

From National Lampoons Vacation: Clark Griswald : Roy... can I call you Roy? Have you even driven cross-country? Roy Walley : Oh, hell yes. Drove the whole family to Florida. Worst two weeks I ever spent in my life. The smell from the back seat was terrible. Clark Griswald : Ooooh. Ooooh, I know that smell. Kidding aside, I love your videos! Terrified of heights!

I, too, was underwhelmed with the Grand Canyon. We did both hiking and a helicopter ride of it. Just seemed huge but that was about it. Mountain Ranges and Canyons were commonplace during my childhood and earlier adult years so I didn't see the awesomeness of it other than its size.
