I agree, training is the key word. This is a combination of two breeds that absolutely require an experienced dog owner. They say they want Herc to be the dominant one, they (K&S) need to be in charge.

I have a Pit Bull named Charlie. He takes care of my chickens. I love my Charlie so much. My Lab Border Collie mix, Buck, trained him to care for the chickens. Buck has since passed at nearly 18 years old. Charlie is a love and so sweet. I think you will have a lot of fun watching Herc teach your new family member how to work with him as his partner.

I'm so happy to read this story. I'm sorry for your loss of Buck. It sounds like he was a wonderful pup for an exceptionally long life, which is fantastic and says a lot about the attention, care and love that he received from his human family and his buddy Charlie. Pits are one of the most misunderstood and mistreated breeds of dogs out there. They are sweet, loyal, smart as heck and resilient. If I were to pick any breed for my next dog it would be a Pit for sure. However, my next dog will need to be a service dog and unfortunately nobody around here trains Pits for service work (and I'd need a taller dog to help with mobility). Having said this, if one just happened to land on my doorstep and needed a home.... well, it'd be cruel for me to not take him or her in, right!? Haha. Again, love hearing about Charlie the Chicken Sitter and how wonderful he is and how much he's adored. Take care and thanks for sharing!

OH My Goodness I'm In Love Too with this Precious Little Guy he's Absolutely Gorgeous 🤩 I have an adult Full blooded Blue Tri Color Pit and an 10 month old Australian Shepherd. I love you guys! We have XL American Bullies. They are the most loving, gentle dogs! People are afraid of the word "pit bull" . Any dog you own can be aggressive, it's up to the owners to show love, kindness and compassion to any fur animal they have. You guy's are amazing fur owners! It's all about love and compassion. Especially when you fall in love with them, and realize they depend on you as much as you depend on them.

We love our Catahoula Blue Leopard. He was great at using his behind to herd our children when they were younger to get them to go where he wanted them to go and to keep them from getting past their boundaries. Because of his breed, possible names Hunter, Herder, Hooligan. All would go with Herc.

Catahoula are not LGD'S. Yes he is absolutely cute. Most puppies are. Will he be protective when he grows up? Absolutely. It is good that you discussed with your friends about what to do if he doesn't work out. They are a very different breed. We had them on a ranch in FL back in the 70's. They were terrific at protecting the cattle, horses and swine from predators. They were less than successful with the poultry. Hopefully you will be able to start him as you wish him to go on. Best wishes. How about the name Finn.

What a little doll that puppy is. I melted when he went and got Herc's toy to drag around. He is so curious and seems intelligent. To gently train my pups not to bite, I would hold their mouth shut with a couple of fingers. At the same time I said no bite. Since I didn't want a barking dog with Beau, I held his mouth and told him no bark. It did great with 3 dogs on no bit. And he is super on no bark command. I would stay with the Greek gods theme; Zeus, Thor, etc. If he is a little bit of a stinker, maybe Loki....lol Have bunches of fun.
