There are COPs with integrated drivers. No need for external coil drivers.

Loving the progress fellas. Fantastic to see how the inner workings of a shop like this actually functions. Making me want a Porsche more and more... I've been sitting here watching as new powder coated parts are being installed, ontop of original non painted parts. My OCD going over drive watching as the engine is being rebuilt without any of the block or heads being painted or polished.... Along with the fan shroud staying in original red with all the new powder coated parts ontop. Is there a reason that it's being left in this way? Are you looking for a sleeper original aged appearance? Or is it down to time??

I wish the SR20 motor was that easy to do valve lash... I just had my SR20DET head redone and the way Nissan designed the hydraulic lifter setup is interesting to say the least.
@speedacademy8 жыл бұрын
+Mark Coleman How do you adjust lash on a hydraulic lifter? Correct me if Im wrong but thats the whole point of the lifters. They take up the slack.
@mcdadcoleman8 жыл бұрын
+Speed Academy You would think. The SR20 does have hydraulic lifters but each rocker arm has a shim in between it and the lifter. The shim clearance is something like .001" (don't quote me on that). So you need specialized tools and a selection of shims just to do a valve job on this motor. There aren't very many shops that will touch these heads. And the rockers are the common weak point, hence the aftermarket aide of rocker stoppers.

Add a ring gear to aluminium flywheel for crank signal.
@felipe34k8 жыл бұрын
0:05 tha fuck u scared me for a second, a valid question, do u have to place engine on exact positions to do valve lash ajustments or just relieve tension of it?
@turbokraftteam45378 жыл бұрын
+Felipe Kauer You put a piston at TDC to take tension off the rockers and then adjust both intake & exhaust valve lash. Rotate the crankshaft 120deg so the next one is at TDC and repeat until done.

Binge watched this whole series after stumbling upon an episode, great stuff! When its all said and done can we get a tally of the hours put in and what a build like this costs for others looking to have this done? Looking forward to the rest of the series!
@speedacademy8 жыл бұрын
+Taylor Wilson Cost on this is all depending on the condition of the engine being rebuilt but you can expect to spend 15-40K depending on what needs to be done and the parts that you want to use/replace.

I've been watching your videos and find everything it to be very informative. Live in Japan at the moment and I own a 1987 930 (The old girl is here with me as well) but looking forward to an engine rebuild/ EFI install when I get back to the U.S. I remember the first video pertaining to the 930 prior to bringing it to Turbokraft you had a issue shifting into 2nd gear. Did you ever sort that out? Lastly you got me when you opened up with the LS-swap.......I was thinking" are you kidding???!!!" but hey its your car. Any way thanks for the great footage.

Have you thought about switching to a 5 or 6 speed transmission? I know the factory 4 speeds are bulletproof but not exactly ideal for everyday driving compared to the 5 speed
@turbokraftteam45378 жыл бұрын
+Drue The 1987-89 Carrera 5-speed is a truly fantastic transmission for fun street driving, with updated synchros and much more precise shifting. However, it is too long to bolt into the 1976-88 930 chassis and must be modified (shortened), plus a different clutch, different pedal box assembly, shifter & linkage, clutch hydraulic system (converts from cable to hydraulic actuation), and finally 1976-86 930s need a 2nd set of mounts welded into the chassis. Not a quick or inexpensive conversion. The 6-speed transmissons are longer still and require extensive & expensive chassis modifications. The gears are thinner so they cannot take as much torque. Plus, 6 is often too many gears for a Turbo with a lot of torque, you end up shifting too much.

Are you still going to test and compare the two turbo's?
