The other thing I would do is specially on first-time mommas is bring them up. you can keep track or at least have an idea of when they're getting close and bring them into a smaller closer area or monitor them with a camera and you can prevent a lot of being worried too easily nowadays with technology LOL even with the Drone you can just fly over and see if they're taking too long

I was wondering if the vets have something like pitocin that can cause her to go into labor and have contractions and be able to deliver whatever else is left. I’m so glad she’s hanging in there. Poor mama. Thanks for giving us an update. Bless this mama.

I was thinking exactly the same. I didn't know what pitocin was, so I looked it up. We call it sintocinon in the UK, but it's all the same. These animals are mammals, so they must have something similar.

@@joywebster2678 You misunderstand I have witnessed farmers/ranchers in recent times that would not have tried to help Ms.Texas expel her dead calf, they only panic and try to get any veterinarian to come do what Dusty did, even though it cost them a valuable young cow. Not saying that other ranchers aren't as dedicated to their animals as Dusty, just that some aren't as dedicated to the animals as they are to the money and status, unfortunately. Hope this clarifies my perspective.

@@joywebster2678 many would have marked her as a lost cause and got the vet to come put her down, others would get a vet to come do the procedure then have to either deal with a non breeder or put her down cause the vets dont always get there in time. few, like dusty, would go in there and pull the dead calf themselves.

Dusty, I had a similar situation once in my yak herd. Although we were able to get the whole dead calf out. The vet gave antibiotics and I kept that yak cow up in an individual pen for a week to monitor her. YES, the waiting , and worry about a Mother bison, on a ranch halfway across the country….I saw the header “ We did what we could” and was braced for bad news. Then, I am overjoyed to see her on her feet, very much alive. I have a good feeling that she will make a full recovery. I know there were many, many prayers for a miracle. To bring a new life into this world, takes a lot of love, and and suffering and sacrifice, pain, and commotion, Joy and sometimes sorrow and loss. I laid awake and remembered when I was full term with my first child, and my cat was aslo full term .We would have a baby and kittens in our home at the same time. Oh, the joy! . My cat disappeared for 2days, and my husband searched for her, she had found a spot in the basement and was in labor. he took her to the vet, and i got the call, he couldn’t save her, kittens stillborn and she died. I begged my husband , please do not let that happen to me!! My son arrived safely and he gave me 4 grandchildren. i dream about when the great grandchildren will come. And dream about many more little red dogs for Dusty in the years to come, and one of them a special reward from Miss Texas. ❤ Dusty, you are a shining example of a good shepherd, you gave everything you had to save just one..

My Cousin miscarried but they left the baby in to "naturally pass", it was early in the pregnancy but far enough along to identify pieces. Pretty traumatic for her. Supporting Texas Cow with Antibiotics and something to cause her uterus to expel what you were unable to reach is the best that can be done for her. You two were a wonderful team, working together. Prayers for her full recovery.
@lesliehyde
@lesliehyde Жыл бұрын
I'm guessing that your cousin lives in Texas or one of the several other states that have recently (in the past year courtesy of the Supreme Court deciding that Roe vs Wade decision wasn't a right for women to continue to have when it comes to their healthcare, cause let's be honest, Republicans don't care about women or people in general unless it's a relative of their own) passed laws that outlawed care for abortions or even miscarriages (the bodies natural abortion reaction when it determines that the body of the mother or genetics of the baby-> fetus isn't suitable for life of the mother or baby)......(?) Hopefully, your cousin's body (uterus) was able to pass EVERYTHING (all of baby's body parts, amniotic sac and placenta) and nothing was retained as she could still be at risk of infection or worse (as I'm assuming that this was a wanted pregnancy/child) potential for causing infertility (inability to carry another pregnancy to term safely or even be able to get pregnant again) or even cause death to your cousin herself.
@tanyasteers4802
@tanyasteers4802 Жыл бұрын
This is why you have to vote blue leaving the baby to rot could cause death or so much damage she could never be able to carry to term it so sad on so many levels. I have been a nurse 30 years and the fact that parts of the countries infant /maternal deaths have spiked to numbers from the 60's! Politicians should not be allowed to decide what happens ya know doctors go to school 8 to 10 years for a reason. Yet you have Politicians saying can't a woman swallow a camera to look in the uterus, it's almost like they never had sex with a woman or never had 6th grade basic anatomy

@@joannathatcares carrying a deceased fetus is DANGEROUS if the mother's body doesn't expell it or doctors don't act in a timely fashion/manner to remove something that is starting the decomposition process the minute the heart stops beating. Even more importantly, if the mother's body (uterus) doesn't expell everything associated with the pregnancy (see my initial response) then everything from future chances at getting pregnant to death (again, see my initial response) is a possibility. A miscarriage (human non-medical term) for what is happening (spontaneous abortion-> an abortion performed by the mother's body because either something is wrong with the mother's health or the mother's body detects something wrong at a genetic level with the fetus/wanted pregnancy). However, even with a spontaneous abortion=humanities term of miscarriage the mother's body has to expell all parts of the pregnancy cause the mother's life becomes a ticking time bomb for everything from issues to future ability to get pregnant to death herself as a result of infection from not expelled uterine contents that are decomposing.

Nature has it's own plan. You as a chosen caretaker are doing a Great Job!!! Rember the story from Paul Harvey that's why God made a caretaker/farmer/rancher/herdsman and a shepherd Dusty we use a rifle that takes a dart to shot into the cow or calf. Less stress on the animal. Our vet has done this many times times to keep beast and man safe well.

It is so amazing how animals intuitively know to find a human for assistance. You did an excellent job helping her clear the calf. That’s commendable.

Sending Prayers to your family and for the TX cow in her recovery. It is always a wait and see kind of thing with animals on a ranch. I hope Marisa is okay after getting out of those boots. I grew up in TX and am familiar with all of those little critters around the ponds. Just watch out for cotton mouth snakes they can be bad. So happy to see that you are sponsored by my very favorite Fishing Clash!! Have a blessed rest of the week & weekend!!

Dusty, thank you for sharing your passion(s) with us. City girl here with 'a few' decades behind me and all I've ever known about Bison I've learned from you (and sometimes even 'with' you)!!. This latest situation with 'Ms. Texas' is more than anyone could expect, let alone even try to handle. Your attention and efforts with her these past days truly reveals your heartfelt care, concern, love and respectful relationship with all in your entire herd, your ranch, of course your wife, child and family AND your viewers. Yes, indeed, she knew she needed help and remarkably, 'so far, so good'. Sorry many of us haven't the know-how to be 'helpful', but please know that we're staying strong and hopeful for you/yours AND 'Ms. Texas'. 🤞🤗 🙏

Fun to watch the Bison taking a dip in the ol’ swimmin’ hole 😅 Thanks for the update on Tx cow. We were all waiting. Surviving 😊this far is a good sign. Maybe ask Doc about more antibiotics and medication that might cause contractions to expel the remainder. Best of luck and sending some serious prayers for this momma.

You're a tough man, Dusty. God bless you 'cause you clearly love your animals & do whatever you need to take care of them. We love Ms. Texas. Hope she thrives. I didn't know the Texas Bison story. You're a good man to rescue damaged or maltreated animals & nurse them to health. God bless you, all your family, & all the ranchhands working with you. ❤😂

Dusty I would put together a small kit for your truck that contains all of the tools necessary for this situation. I would also include a mask and some vicks to put on your face to help with the smells. I have handled dead bodies in my profession, some locked up in a trailer for days in 100 plus heat. The vicks mask combo worked for me every time.
