I once saw a heard of Mustangs East of Reno Nevada. Ironically, not far from the freeway exit for Mustang, NV. It was the only time I saw any of those wild horses over the several years that i worked all over Nevada.
@julieobrien4056Ай бұрын
I have never seen any wild horses, even though there is supposedly a very large area of them north of me here in Nevada. That would be so cool! I’m glad you and B were able to watch them for awhile together. That little black baby was sooo cute!!

Oh my heart 🥹the Alberta wildies are magical!! I’m so glad that you shared them with B (&us)it really drives me crazy that given just how many predators Canada has from wolves bears & cougars only a very small number of foals actually survive & yet representatives in the government want them gone,the predators are actually doing a pretty good job in keeping everything balanced. I just wish the wild horses we have in the states were treated better our AZ Alpines have faced roundups(as has so many other herd across the country in different HMA’s but living in AZ I feel deeply connected to the Alpines of the Apache forest,my friend rescued 2 of them)a specific contractor working to get them sold into the slaughter pipeline,a massacre shooting in 2022(perpetrators still haven’t been arrested)& even worse “rescues” who claim to care only to fundraise for them & abandon them back into the pipeline later,it’s ridiculous. I’m grateful for the organization HAWS who has been documenting the different bands for years and have also rescued several foals in need while fighting to keep these horses wild and WITHOUT birth control (in many cases I think it does help when done correctly)but for these guys I just don’t think it’s necessary.🐎🤗🧡

Beautiful, nature at her best, Rudnik would have loved to see them, his tail would be up in the air, and him snorting like a dragon, and they would have all replied, "Hey there Rudnik, we miss you boy, you have a great time with the humans"

HAWS in Alberta, rescues widl foals, and has some great footage of the horses in the wild. They have a website and videos on KZbin.Also, the Camiles out of Kamloops do the same and have a website. When I was a kid I was part of Wild Horse Annie's letter writing campaign here, in the USA, to protect wild herds. Now the BLM has round-ups and auctions horses regularly to keep herd sizes in check. They are proposing culling herds in Alberta, and giving mares birth control. But it seems to be to benefit cattle ranchers, not to maintain herd sizes. They're claiming the wild horses are eating down the natural vegetation, but it looks in the film more like deer, elk and other grazers are eating most of it. Also, those horses have ben surviving without man's help for 400 years.....

I recently watched a PBS special about the wild mustangs of the American West. Wild Horse Annie was featured in part of the documentary. It’s quite the dilemma that the wild mustangs are having in competition with grazing livestock. They are fascinating animals, for sure.

A BC horse trainer I follow has rescued some BC Wildies (captured in roundups). One was 3 when he got him, the other 2 were 11 months old. The oldest is now 6, the middle is 3, the youngest is 2, and their herd behavior is slightly different from the fully domesticated horses. They all get along, and, for the most part, horse behavior is horse behavior. But there are a few things they do when it comes to eating & drinking that are different. Their progress as domesticated horses has been fun to watch.

I also watch the videos posted by the Saving Alberta's Wildies Society (SAWS) they track the individuals and herds by trail cameras which also pick up bears and wolves. If a foal is in trouble and deemed it won't survive if left they rescue it and let it live out it live on protected acreage.

When I was a kid, our family was vacationing in Chincoteague and Assateague, VA... now granted, those ponies aren't truly wild, but... one hot afternoon we left the beach and were in a paved parking lot loading our car, and a single pony slowly came up to us looking miserable and dehydrated, so we poured some water from our cooler into a hat, and it gratefully drank all we had. I don't know why it was alone, why it was in a parking lot, or why it couldn't find its own water, but I'll never forget that.

Not really ‘Wild’ but I adopted a feral mare years ago who wouldn’t approach humans. So the first time she walked up to me it was truly magical. But I’ve never approached wild/feral horses like these

I LOVE watching herd dynamics of wild/feral horses and seeing how it plays into domesticated herd. There really is no difference but you can learn so much about why our horses are the way they are!

I watch Stable Horse Training's channel. He has a three BC Wildies. They are wonderful horses with such great personalities. Maybe not the prettiest but, just sweet and playful. In the US they are under management by the Federal Bureau of Land Mgmt. The BLM does horrible things to move them and limit their numbers

"A mare can typically be bred back very soon after giving birth, often during her first estrus cycle called "foal heat," which usually occurs within 6 to 12 days post-foaling, while her foal is still nursing; this means she can be bred back while still lactating." from Yahoo. I looked it up cause I knew a mare could be bred back quickly but wasn't sure how fast or if she still had a nursing foal....

I can’t comprehend someone who could slaughter these beautiful wild animals. There are so few left. It just makes no sense. People can be so cruel to animals and to other people. It makes me wonder why they are so broken that they can do that.
