“The land does not belong to our people.” So South Africans that own farms (traditionally boers) are not ‘your people’? I love your videos that show better sides of Africa but sometimes the exclusion of non-black Africans (like the boers that have been there for longer than some black tribes) feels like you don’t welcome non-black people in Africa. Btw, its also really difficult for most white South Africans to buy a farm. It’s only the few lucky ones that have inherited one. They happen to be mostly boers because of SA’s complicated and long history for which we can’t blame them as you can’t choose your parents. As a side note, if you were born in Europe for example and didn’t inherit, it’s even more impossible to ever buy a farm. The riches in natural resources across Africa are never exploited by foreigners alone. It’s mostly in combination with or solely by a corrupt mostly black elite. It’s the government that is not introducing enough financial help for farming. Most people in the comments got that right though.

We need to build sustainable communities where we are producing our own food, clothing, and shelter. We also need accountability for repats that gain popularity from your interviews. We need an oversite and grievance committee otherwise we will be creating more of the same problems in the West here on the continent. You are the man that can get this conversation going. Also, lawyers from the diaspora must assist them in creating an association to address diaspora ethics on the continent.

Indeed, I want to go back to Africa and build a community, where we own all the land, control and/or own all the businesses on the land and force people to be on code.

This is one of the great story to be told in South Africa, it is not only educative and informative but it also debunk the notion that black South Africans are lazy. Your channel opens up the mind of thousands if not millions of Africans on the continent and in diaspora, maybe if you have time you can produce a video that is aimed at training our youth who want to do professional looking documentaries/stories of Africans who are doing incredible work in their respective countries like this one. Some youth only need to know what type of cameras/phones/microphones/gimbals and drones they need to acquire in order to film documentaries so that we can multiply Wode Maya on the continent. In a speech at Lincoln University in 1946-the first US institution to grant degrees to African-Americans-he famously stated that racism was a “disease of white people.” The history of external colonisation of Africa can be dated back from ancient, medieval, or modern history, depending on how the term colonisation is defined. Ancient Greeks, Romans, Arabs and Malays all established colonies on the African continent, some of which endured centuries. In popular parlance, discussions of colonialism in Africa usually focus on the European conquests of the New Imperialism and the Scramble for Africa (1884-1914) era, followed by gradual decolonisation after World War II. The principal powers involved in the modern colonisation of Africa are Britain, France, Germany, Portugal, Spain and Italy. In nearly all African countries today, the language used in government and media is the one imposed by a recent colonial power, though most people speak their native African languages. Therefore whosoever heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them, I will liken him unto a wise man, which built his house upon a rock: and the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell not: for it was founded upon a rock. Thank you Maya for this interview, I wish you can interview more black farmers from different provinces and farming backgrounds to get a more broader and different perspective about the land issue (specifically COMMERCIAL land) and black farmers in general Land issue (commercial land) in South Africa is a real challenge even our ruling party and government doesn't have the balls to tackle it head-on once and for all, for the benefit of majority black people. So the reason why we say commercial land instead of using just land in general, is because what we as black South Africans are mostly fighting for is commercial land, because majority of black South Africans are born here and we already have and own our residential land (the houses we own in townships & suburbs) and mostly own even more bigger residential & farming land from different parts of rural areas where we come from in all 9 provinces. This is where our ancestors were born and come from, then our parents and children mostly relocated to bigger cities for employment, where some own a small piece of land in the townships and suburbs. This is mostly residential land, wanted to clarify that part. Commercial land is what we as blacks in South Africa are fighting for, because we want to use the land for agricultural purposes and many other forms and types of businesses, to be part of the country's value chain in business and be part of growing the economy in a much more bigger scale like our white, coloured, indian and other race counterparts. The bulk of commercial land in South Africa is still owned by the minority race (whites). Black ownership of commercial land is still at the lowest compared to Coloured, Indians and other race outside of the black race. We DO HAVE BLACK COMMERCIAL FARMERS in South Africa and the % has slightly improved although still way too low compared to white, coloured and Indian commercial farmers. Our governement must change the policies to make sure black people get their land back so we can farm and feed our nation. This is where Nelson Mandela FAILED us black South Africans. I totally agree with the brother there, that black South Africans are NOT lazy! we work very hard! The apartheid system did a great job convincing people that black South Africans are lazy meanwhile black people are the ones running and working on their businesses and growing them daily 🙄 how ironic!! Black people want their land back so we can work! Crime is another huge challenge in our country! very sad indeed, due to high unemployment and corruption. Although the country's economy is largely in the white race hands, the fastest growing economy is now in the townships (where black people own the land), the government is aware of this, they know it and we already have lots of black South Africans owning and running businesses in townships. This is where jobs are gonna be coming from. The transformation is very slow though due to lack of government support (capital/finance support) I had my SOLAR panels stolen 3 times and the last break-in was last month April and this time they stole my SOLAR PUMP as well at my farm. but we soldier on coz farming is my passion and I want to contribute towards food security in the country and continent as well as contribute towards job creation ❎As black South Africans, we must STOP this narrative that we can't farm! it's total BS! our parents and grandparents lived on farming and our ancestors lived on farming way before the white man came to Africa! We really need to stop putting ourselves (blacks) down like that especially here in South Africa. South Africa also has lots of small black farmers who farm in small agricultural holdings (plots of 15ha and less) we just need more commercial land so we can do our thing! In most rural areas of South Africa (outside of big cities and provinces) black people do own lots of land and majority are involved in livestock farming, let us not overlook that part also. Thank you again Wode Maya for visiting our beautiful country South Africa. Hope next time you make it to other provinces like EASTERN CAPE, MPUMALANGA, LIMPOPO, NORTHWEST, NORTHERN CAPE. Please do come back😊 Peace Love and Light to all Africans #ONELOVE #ONEAFRICA #PeacefulAfrica #Peace #LOVE

You were eloquent and articulated your points well and were quite technical BUT your statement that we don't own land as black people in SA is misleading. You should be specific that we don't own arable/ commercial land. Because if you go with that narrative, them other Africans get it so twisted and their narrative can be exhaustive and we have to keep on explaining ourselves as they always come from an angle of envy and jealousy.
@tshidimonatsi87542 жыл бұрын
@@mzukulwanakangubengcuka2121 Thank you very much for making that specific point very clear. Thank you for correcting me. You are absolutely correct, there is a difference because South Africa has majority of black citizens and where they live, they own their land, it is theirs, it is not rented. I will edit the post for future readers so I don't confuse anyone with regard to the TYPE OF LAND we are referring to. Thank you again. Peace and love

@@mzukulwanakangubengcuka2121 We do not own land be it commercial or residential. Please don't lie. You think the way we live is dignified? We don't own land, we own debt that continues to feed the minority. Access to land here is nightmare if you're black period. It's a layman truth... 💔💔

@@isazenny2350 White supremacy runs South Africa. of course not all white are rich but as a group they're the most economically powerful group in SA and they're only 8-10% of the population. Im sick and tired of people like you who choose not to see the reality because it hurts. the only way to change is to admit that you're losing. Blacks are the majority but they're at the bottom. That tells me sth is wrong. And the unequal distribution of the resources play a major part in that. Don't be fooled by the few blacks living in nice neighborhoods that doesn't mean a damn thing when you take the group into consideration.

I think the issue of security can also be solved by building properties in the land and rent or sell these properties to people who want to enjoy farm life. During harvest time the community can assist as well. Whatever that need to be done in the farm, the community can assist. Most of all the properties will assist the farmer with capital.

Lesson: Black South Africans do own the land. Unfortunately not all of it but in province like Limpopo people grew up with food from their own land Farms and larger scale gardens. I’d like to believe the same thing in other provinces like Eastern Cape and KwaZulu Natal. However, we do need to acquire more land and ensure it’s productive.

Yes same on Eastern Cape, but history land was communal and was for consumption for the households. So people are still stuck in that mentality. They keep high amounts of cattle but but not for selling. So if we can't start using those resources commercially it will change the status quo.
