I ultimately agree with Sanders, but I struggle through to come to my viewpoint. I can see how someone views abortion as having an effect on another life. Such as, we would be prosecuted if we harmed an unborn sea turtle or charged with double murder for killing a pregnant woman. I wish it was as black and white in my mind as it is in many others. The vasectomy just isn’t a great comparison in my opinion.
@mathildeyoung18232 ай бұрын
if bodily autonomy were a full human right, abortion obviously would still need to be illegal as it violates the body of a human being in the worst way...
@WiggidyWack2 ай бұрын
@mathildeyoung1823 You'd need to show that a zygote acts with autonomy, and even if you did, you're defaulting to zygote autonomy having more value than the autonomy of the mother. This is backwards, since the autonomy of the mother clearly dictates the fate of the zygote in the first place, or we wouldn't be having the conversation. Maybe instead of us trying to restrict women's autonomy and options when it comes to pregnancy, we first make a world hospitable, enriching, and prioritizing better conditions for people? That's probably going to disincentivise a need for abortion in a safer, voluntary way than punitive enforcement. It also eliminates the contradiction of claiming human life as priority but still allowing children to suffer growing up in abject poverty, all while forcing pregnancies to term. I'm sure you mean well with your sentiment, but realize that it can still be resolved with little change to your guiding principles. All you have to do is apply it to the bigger picture of prioritizing human life and autonomy and realize abortion is primarily a symptom of greater social problems like income inequality, sexism, violence, healthcare, etc. Treat the illness, not the symptoms, and all of us benefit.
@mathildeyoung18232 ай бұрын
@@WiggidyWack A human zygote is a member of our species - i.e. a human being. Just as it's wrong to take the life of a human being based on religion or skin color it's obviously wrong to take the life of a human being based on their level of development. The law telling a man or a woman not to unalive their offspring, born or unborn, does not mean their offspring (born or unborn) mas more value than a man or a woman it means they have the same basic human right as all other innocent human beings - the right not to be k!!!ed. There is help out there for women facing unplanned pregnancies (help that doesn't involve unaliving a human being). If money is a concern, a pregnancy resource center can often help a woman - e.g. by helping her find more affordable housing, a job etc. The problem is women have to WANT to save the life of their unborn child - and many won't if their heads are filled with LIES by the abortion movement (e.g. the "not a human being" nonsense).

reminds me of a joke about cocaine. your intense friend: THIS IS GREAT! IT INTENSIFIES YOUR PERSONALITY! you: what if you are an @$$#0le?! "doing things differently" is only good if the difference is positive or if negative, it is adding to our learning of what NOT to do! in that way trump was beneficial as he has shown us that we are not exceptional enough to not fall for fascist tropes. of course we should have already known that from previous experience, but the same party has been gutting our educational system for 50yrs so most americans know just as little about their own history as world history. and so, we who do not pay attention to history are doomed to repeat mistakes.

Every time I think about term limits or age limits in politics I think of Bernie and start second guessing myself. He's obviously an exception to the rule, though. At 82 he still speaks with the clarity, rhythm, and conviction that most politicians can never dream of. I was worried about him running in 2019 but once he was on the trail it was obvious that, for him, age *is* just a number. Even after a heart attack the guy was running circles around candidates half his age. I know we're slowly approaching a time where Sanders is not a part of the national stage of American politics, and while that's sad, it's great to look around and see all of the people that got involved after his 2016 campaign was suspended. The address he gave when he withdrew his candidacy at the end of that monumental campaign must have led to dozens, maybe hundreds, of young, ambitious, and vocational (heartfelt and virtuous) people to be elected into office across the nation. Thanks Senator Sanders for never being ashamed of being yourself, and for never giving up the fight. Good luck on your re-election campaign!

He didn't cave. Bernie was never going to win the nomination. Almost the entire Democratic party, who is beholden to Wall Street (corporations), was against Bernie and in favor of Hillary. MSNBC, part of Wall Street, was for Hillary and pushing pro-Hillary and anti-Bernie stories and commentary 24/7. Even Bernie's friends said, "Bernie is a good friend, but I support Hillary." Bernie is an independent. He is not part of the Democratic party. He caucasses with the Dems and needs their support. They weren't going to support him. He had no choice but to drop out. We all suspected Hillary would blow it and lose to trump, but Wall Street wanted their chosen one. When Wall Street gets their person in both on the Dems side and the GOP side, they can't lose. Bernie is not beholden to Wall Street, so they did not want him as they don't control him. In 2020, it was more of the same, except Lizzie Warren made it her mission to make sure Bernie didn't become president. She had a personal vendetta against Bernie. She bad mouthed him every chance she got. Went on MSNBC and bad mouthed him. Rachel Maddow and Joy Reid did the same. Maddow did an interview with Bernie, and all she did was attack Bernie with the Warren and other BS accusations and never let Bernie talk policy even though he tried again and again. The Maddow interview was a hit piece on Bernie. Remember the debate when Warren refused to shake Bernie's hand, and she made a scene after the debate and pointed her finger at him and scolded him? Warren was IN it to make sure Bernie didn't WIN it. She never dropped out of the race until Biden was the chosen one. She never endorsed Bernie, though she didn'thave a path to victory. Warren is a 🐍 snake 100%. Remember when that was trending on social media? In 2016 and 2020, just know that there are forces at work to make sure Bernie doesn't win. In 2016, it was the Democratic party and Wall Street. In 2020, it was the Democratic party, Wall Street, and Lizzie Warren.
