Every truck has its pros and cons, for dodges step one is almost always a transmission, for ford's it is head studs. We all pick our poison. But if you're one of the lucky ones that already has head studs then you don't ever have to pull the cab again.

It's a little easier to do all the work. It's much easier to film. The cab removal isn't necessary. All the work can be done with the cab on. The 6.4L from 2008 to 2010 is a different story. However cab removal can be achieved in 30 minutes. Ford Senior Master Technician for 8 of my 20 years with Ford. Just fyi that I'm not blowing diesel smoke up your ass. I do this work myself.

Finally someone’s speaking about the positives of a 6.0 power stroke! You can find one for super cheap with a blown up engine, put a bulletproof crate engine in and have a diesel that can keep up with brand new ones for around $10,000!

@@quentonmillstid850 I honestly bought a 6.0 05 F350 dually because it wasn't that large enough of a difference for what I wanted to pull compared to something newer from a financial perspective and performance to price perspective. Fuel economy while towing is about the same so why go newer? Sure 6.7 is a different engine than the 6.0 but who wants a 900-1300/mo payment over 7-8 years? I don't. I love my 6.0 I put some work into it already and have already towed with it and I plan on using it for years to come. Bought it with 296k on the odo. :)

I bought a clean 05 F-350 flatbed with a blown motor for $1300 bucks. Having never had one, I learned about 6.0's from video's like this one. Thanks for all you do to help us all out. I built mine about three years ago and I drive and pull with it nearly every day. The only reason I've ever had to pop the hood on it so far is to check the fluids and show it off to my friends. Nearly any engine you choose will have some issue that can be improved upon. I've been a mechanic for forty years. Like a lot of engines today, 6.0's are a fairly complicated engine in the sense that everything has to be just right in order for it to work correctly. I commend all you guys out there who work on your own trucks to save a buck or two, but I also see a lot of guys who just don't have any business turning a wrench on these things. Those are the guys ragging on what a bad motor the 6.0 is. There's also a lot of "shops" out there that claim to work on 6.0's too, but shouldn't be. I've owned semi's with Cummins, Detroit's and Cat's for years now and all have had one thing or another changed to improve their reliability. All good engines. Some more expensive than others. To all the hater's out there ragging on one brand or the other, all I hear is, " I don't understand how it works and I don't know how to fix it!!!" When you see a fellow trucker out there having an issue with his truck, please stop and ask if there's anything you can do to help. I've been on both side of that fence. You'll sleep better at night and feel better about yourself too. Last but certainly not least, just like a good dog, don't go beat the S#!T out of it and expect it to be loyal to you. Thanks again PDD. Keep it coming.

I added intercooler, boost tubes, intake & "free flowing exhaust".. put down 503hp & 589ft lbs to the wheels.. Goose Tuning.. It is hilarious power.. Upgraded turbos and e-85.. they do well over 600hp and 650tq to the tires.. Modern tech is amazing..

@jonathanjones8044 2 жыл бұрын
@@mesarosshawn2422 I agree. Once the engine’s shortcomings are addressed, they are very robust. The 5R110 is a superb tranny as well. However, compared to the same era’s Cummins and Duramaxes-an intake, exhaust and tuning will get you 500 HP & 900 lb/ft. of torque for a ton less money.
@mesarosshawn2422
@mesarosshawn2422 2 жыл бұрын
@@jonathanjones8044 just depends on what you're used to. the dodge tranny's aren't as robust but importantly, whatever you're most comfortable with is usually what works and what's tolerable. studding a lower mileage 6.0 is 1500. bucks. ear delete is free, but the oil cooler is going to be another 1000 bucks - + larger turbo and 150 overinjectros for another 2500 so at around $6k you're done and 500hp zero issues but for more you need another 3500 in heads.

Around here, even the 2011 and 2012 6.7s with 150k+ miles are selling for almost the same price they did new. Anything 2017+ is worth MORE than new. The time to buy a new or newer truck was a few years ago, not now. Now is the time to buy 6.0s, 7.3s, 5.9s and early duramax trucks. They are coming down in price because of fuel prices. A lot of people own trucks, but don't need trucks. 6.0s are the best buy currently, as long as you do your homework and know how to buy a 6.0 without getting burned. Seriously, do your research. You can find a ton of good info on the forums. If you tow less than 8-10k lbs, don't discount the f150 ecoboost and 5.0 trucks. The 2011-2016 trucks can be found for decent deals and are solid trucks. The company I work for has nearly a dozen well-maintained 150k+ mile ecoboost f150s and half a dozen 5.0s. They have been awesome trucks with very few issues. The ecoboosts tow with diesel-like torque and get 20mpg unloaded. The 5.0 is no slouch, either, but doesn't scratch that diesel torque "itch" like the ecoboost does. I was so impressed with the ecoboost f150s at work that I sold my reliable, but boring 7.3 f250 and bought a new 2019 3.5 ecoboost f150 almost 3 years ago for 12k under msrp. It has been the best truck I've ever owned. In stock form, it is almost as fast as my old, heavily modded 6.0 was (sold 7 years ago), but is much easier and cheaper to maintain and repair, if needed. It has been flawless so far and is stupid fast with just a tune. The tires are not handling it well. With a few bolt-ons, people are getting into the 11s in the 1/4 mile with their ecoboost f150s.

So I’ve been building and repairing 6.0s since 2005 so much that the Ford dealers locally would call me for info and questions on problem trucks. I’ve have learned so much over the years but like you there are some that run like a scalded dog and others that never really preform but one big thing I’ve learned is the camshaft and ficm tuning is the key in power and mpg. Many people forget that early build 6.0s had a different cam. Many people remember the first trucks hit the road and they were all hot rods then the 04.5 trucks got neutered by the EPA. The difference in the cam is not lift but duration on exhaust. Like you said exhaust is a bigger factor than many people take notice for but the later model cam was designed to hold exhaust in the cylinder to help the emission numbers like the egr, that’s bad for power. In my builds if I ever am down to the heads off and cab off and the customer is wanting mpg and power I always push a stage 2 cam which adds about 50 hp on a stock truck with no tuning and really shines with some tunes. Try one and you’ll love it, I promise!

Every truck has its problems but the price to double the power of a 6.0 pretty much costs the same to double the power of any other truck because with any dodge you have a trans rebuild, and same story with a 7.3. Whereas with a 6.0 you have a cab off.

4th is a lower ratio than 5th . It is used when cold to get more combustion events per mile . This slightly increased rpm puts more heat into the coolant to reach no smoke/better combustion temperature faster. Diesel is known for taking forever to warm up. I run the ac compressor during warmup( defrost uses the compressor to dry the air) to improve warm up time. Especially when cold out, this puts the compressor heat into the IC intern speeds up warm-ups. From 4-6 mi at 25-35mph city down to 1-3 mi to reach 190°.

They were dumping fuel into this truck and banging their heads because the Camshaft is ground to be a low emissions low overlap specification to promote a clean burn and does not let you burn fuel before the turbo for great boost. @@nickjohnson7841 Right, if that is the case, then answer me this. Why is there still a shit ton of 7.3s still on the road, lots of them with big injectors and turbo, making close to 500hp at the wheels, and a lot of them with very high mileage. Not exactly characteristics of a "weak" motor especially since they haven't been produced for 20 years and there are still tons of them on the road. And I don't care who you are, with enough air and fuel ANYTHING can make good power. BTW, a forged rod 7.3 can literally handle 600hp with very little modification, nearly 3 times it's original output.

@@atomicwarfare4282 never once said they were not reliable. Not true or even close. The 7.3 runs into injection pressure issues early on. @@nickjohnson7841 In what way is the 7.3 weak? It can literally handle the same amount of power as a 6.7 powerstroke. I have owned many 7.3s, they do not have injection pressure issues "early on". And more importantly, the subject of the matter is to double the horsepower output of a stock truck. Apparently just because stock trucks are making 500 stock, that means that's "not alot" lol, whatever. I don't care if you're a mechanic, you're opinion is still garbage. I work on heavy equipment, is it the most stout diesel, no, but to say that it's weak is like saying the 5.9 isn't reliable.

@@reesewilliamson3346 Not joking at all. Firstly, the 6.0 is not at all like the old ihi, nor does it resemble one whatsoever. For what it was designed to do, it makes more horsepower and greater torque than the 7.3 it replaced, both ihi and navistar models, and did so with less displacement and more fuel economy. They have some known issues like any other mass produced pre emissions diesel shoved into a light duty vehicle, but that said, countless people are running on 300-400k mile stock 6.0s that get worked daily. Seems like more of a owner issue than an engine problem when most of the issues stem from maintenance. Every time I hear someone talk about how to make a 6.0 reliable, I cringe, mostly because I think it would be a better idea to just get yourself a coffee can and set fire to your money

Cummins blows 4 transmissions before the powerstroke will blow. Less downtime than a Cummins
