When will SciFi writers finally all realize that a colony/research/gas station on the Moon will have to be underground? Otherwise, the cosmic rays are going to break your DNA into little pieces?

Another "lovecraftian" cosmic horror tale; as intense, but also as general and vague as Lovecraft's usual style. For one thing, the story does not even give a hint of how the GravCore device works; not even a believable speculation or theory. Then we have to consider that if such "crystalline" substances existed within the moon, the decades of remote Lunar studies and experiments (including the one where a multiton part of a spacecraft was deliberately crashed into the Moon, with the resulting seismic results) would have revealed the presence of significant amounts of strange anomalous materials as part of the Moon's geological make up. Thus, for me personally, the story is based on the old "Science In It's Ignorance Triggers A Disaster" trope, mostly for a "campfire ghost story" scare effect. Even the usual trio of characters - the brilliant, somewhat arrogant scientist, the more cautious, speculative, possibly younger colleague, and the no - nonsence military commander type that we would find in most sci - fi B movie stories are all present. Very similar to what we find in many Lvecraftian stories in fact. Don't get me wrong; the pacing and narration style are both good and exciting except for the last parts that seem to be predictable and rushed. With more believable pseudo hard science, it would be a better story, i think. Just saying ...
