I am a retired professional Broadcast TV Cameraman living a few miles from Slains in Aberdeenshire, so well filmed very professional and great to put Slains on the Dracula Map....Very well done as per usual. I would have thought any Hollywood producer looking at this stunning footage could easily build a brilliant script on a new Dracula movie, using this location as the start of the film ???
@walterhager8626
@walterhager8626 4 ай бұрын
Thats actually a brilliant idea but unfortunately we live in the cgi Ai era which sucks so directors say oh let's just green screen it in 🤦‍♂️

@@walterhager8626 Walter that is true, but some Directors sometime slip back to traditional sets and models or film rather than video, instead of CGI. Its just Slains Castle (and I live pretty close to it) would be so wonderful to use as a location and light at night as a Cinematographer. As a ruin its ideal for a script that could use it as a backdrop /time shift or the return of Dracula. Also re film location the old big Peterhead Prison is also available as a location very close to Slains its not changed since Prisoners were kept in it so perhaps add that to the script as it close to move the crew to??? Just a thought.

@@alwatt9367 I agree but there so many directors that don't have that vision or drive anymore or have passed on. Another reason I messaged you is I seen broadcast cameraman is that like the news and stuff? Either way sounds like an awesome job and you speak of filming with passion. Who would you think would make a good Dracula movie because been awhile since we've had 1. Like I love movie scripts and Van Helsing was a decent movie but so much cgi and stuff kinda ruined it for me. Also goes for me personally I love the Ghostbusters but the new 1 wasn't so good but if ya ever seen the 2021 one Ghostbusters Afterlife it's just to me an amazing movie and fun ride and the ending was beautiful still not as good as the original which nothing usually is the as good as the original lol. Sorry I ramble alot when I type. But who would you think living or dead would have done an amazing job on this filming location maybe about Bram finding his inspiration or dragula himself? Oh I'm curious about the jail thing when were the last prisoners? Sorry I love having conversations about stuff like this and would love all the info you feel like typing

@@walterhager8626 Hi Walter seems unfair to hog the grimmlife collection... To answer your first question I trained in London as a studio Cameraman doing sit coms Dramas Outside Broadcasts etc.. Became first Cameraman in UK to do ENG which led me to Lighting Cameraman then documentary, drama then had to do ENG News as the company decided to stop Studio and Outside Broadcasts.. So I feel its a real compliment from me to Grimmlife as did Camerawork for 40 plus years. You can look up Peterhead prison as its now available to visit and hire for filming ...Think 10 years ago roughly it closed and a new one was built.. If I were a producer I would get Hugh Laurie to be the next Dracula as I think he has great potential as a producer and actor..I have never worked with him but he was fabulous in The Night Manager and the House MD Tv series. Best wishes al

As you were walking through the ruins I am imagining those that walked the halls many many many moons ago in the 16th-century, and then imagining Bram Stoker roaming the grounds pulling inspiration for Dracula. Reading Dracula in high school sparked my love for all things gothic. AMAZING video, as per usual.

Actually,Bram Stoker got the idea from a case of supposed vampirism in upstate NY, the vampire was a young girl named Mercy Lena Brown.. the main characters names are derived from her name... during the tuberculosis epidemics in the 1890s, people feared it was vampires..Her body was exhumed,her heart was burned on a nearby headstone and her brother consumed the ashes, supposed to keep him safe, but he died of Tuberculosis anyway... should be able to Google it

Oh gracious, I'm rolling my eyes. That's not a kitchen. That is one of the cellars with a built-in stone shelves maybe for wine, depends how close is to a dining room. It have to be built with arch-vault to withstand the weight of the building above. The larger vault is where they would have a built-in cabinet. Nothing unusual about it, many old houses of the 18 and 19th centuries in Europe, still have it. The castle is huge, and made sense to have it close to the dining instead of walking far to get the wine. But then again, if one doesn't know much the old Europe, anything can have been built for spooky purposes.

What's so heartbreaking is that we have horrific cliff erosion round our coast now, and unless something drastic is done in the near future, that's going to start crumbling away along with the cliff! What I was most surprised, and saddened about. is not only the lack of any kind of upkeep or protection, but there are no safety barriers or catch netting anywhere. Wow!*! Thanks for the vid though, you might be really glad you captured this in the not too distant future as I think it won't stay looking like that for much longer!*! ❤

I used to live in Cruden Bay and visited Slains Castle and the Kilmarnock Arms hotel many times. Bram Stoker also stayed at a cottage called the Crooked Lum in a village called Whinneyfold near Cruden Bay. Allegedly it was whilst staying at the Crooked Lum nightmares he had after eating too much crab meat gave him an inspiration to write Dracula. Incidentally there is an older ruined castle called Old Slains Castle a bit further south along the coast and also there is a wreck called the Chicago right below Slains Castle which I’ve dived on. Great video guys. 👏

I done a ghost tour at Dublin castle at night. Our tour guide told us that bram stoker worked there as a accountant and he left as he was having nightmares,while he was awake. And it’s written in the night watchman’s books. That he saw bram stoker fighting with someone but there was no one there. He left there and a few years later wrote Dracula.

Fantastic video Mike and Jessica. Your camera work is superb, and showcases the castle beautifully. The mist coming off the North Sea is known as Haar. I'm originally from Aberdeen (now London, not far from where Bram Stoker's ashes are kept) and have family connections with Cruden Bay; so have been to Slains a few times. It never ceases to blow my mind. I was on tenterhooks seeing Jessica near the cliff edge 🫣 Bram stayed at The Kilmarnock Arms hotel, and he signed the guest book which they still have to this day. And yet I honestly never knew that Slains Castle was the real life inspiration for Castle Dracula. I know that the Romanian tourist board love to claim that either Bran Castle or Corvin Castle inspired Stoker, but this place seems much more plausible actually. I can just picture the count roaming through those ruins. One can only imagine what it must have been like to have experienced the place before it fell into decay.

I love how you're both over here and enjoying your tour in UK. This video is fantastic and I love anything Dracula/Vampires etc. We live in historic Berwick Upon Tweed in Northumberland, right next to the Scottish border and we have many views like this over the North Sea from our town, along the amazing and picturesque coastline. Great watch, once again ! 🏰🤩

Ever since finding your channel this is one of those local spots that I hoped you'd cover. Scotland has so many beautiful and magical little spots that I know you two would appreciate. Thank you for existing, to both of you beautiful people. (You should check out Elgin cathedral. I just know that you'd fall in love with the look of it and also the history.)

Glad to see you guys made it to there at last and were totally thrilled and enjoyed your visit . I did suggest you visit Slain's Castle on a previous comment on another posting . I have been there many times as i live near that area . It is even more creepy at night . My son and his friend were there one night and heard blood curdling screams . They bolted and ran to the car which was parked nearby . I kid you not . There is said to be a lot of ghostly doings from time to time . There have been a few suicides and deaths recorded there over time one of them a few years back when a very young child fell to their death . I am a huge fan of Dracula and read the book for the first time away back in the mid 1960's when i was only 11 years old .

Omg I got nervous as she was walking and you look and there’s just a drop! So beautiful but I had chills thinking Baby Ghoul don’t fall! Don’t wanna test out your bat wings that way! It’s eerie feeling with the fog but so beautiful too because it’s like you are looking into the unknown! It’s also crazy because as soon as Baby Ghoul walked through the arch of the ruins it felt honestly like a scene from Harry Potter! It’s so crazy but cool to get these images in your head of this beautiful place and cannot help but picture in your head the wonders of how this castle looked and knowing it’s historic! With the fog and the eerie feeling you get chills and it’s almost as if your blood runs cold, but it’s exciting at the same time! Walking around the ruins felt like I was right there! Picturing Bram walking through here to inspire Dracula is amazing and that room it’s legit walking through history! So so incredible and amazing and eerie and beautiful! And the drone shots of the ruins icing on the cake so so crazy but I’m loving it! Another bucket list place added to my second notebook for sure! Just so amazing I’m so glad you both got to be there and experience the history and adventure! Safe travels always, love you both! 🧛🏻‍♂️🧛🏻‍♂️🧛🏻‍♂️🧛🏻‍♂️💚🦇👻

So cool to see you come to slains, its around 15 mins drive from my house as i live just outside Aberdeen Scotland so we visit it every year. Its an amazing place and very spooky, you did the castle justice! Just be careful anyone visiting as the cliffs beside the castle are atrocious! The fog makes your video that extra little creepy on a sunny day you get a cracking view of the north sea. Its well known in the local area that Bram Stoker was a visitor there a lot, some of the locals descendants have so many cool stories passed down to them about his time there.
