Just another awesome video of us kicking A** in the forest. HAHA JKJK This week we begin working on the first of four sets of stairs we are going to be building this Summer. I finally show y'all the entrance to the property and how much work it is going to be to build it. We are really excited though because once it is done we will have great access to the property! Update to this video as we were leaving the last day in this video we got a very hopeful email from a contractor on the island. There might be a chance that we can put in a driveway to completely avoid this area all together. So, we shall see. This trail building might be for nothing or just another good access point into the property when it is snowy for example.
Thanks for watching everyone! It has been really cool to be able to share this journey so far. I absolutely cannot wait to see how far we are able to get this Summer! 😘
Love ya, love ya! 💓

Looks like you’re going to need a lot of rocks for the retaining wall, and rocks are heavy, so would hammering logs into the ground like a picket fence work? It might be less heavy.

Great job so far !!! Really like the progress on the stairs. I think you mentioned cutting the rebar , until you can trim the rebar down on the stairs, they make orange safety caps to put over the rebar so in the event someone trips they don't get impaled. The drainage pipe sounds like a good idea too . Can't wait to see how the bridges progress too.

You got this! Learning the contours of the land is part of what is going to make your path great (literally and figuratively speaking). If there are any local’ish mountain bike associations - may not be a bad idea to hike some of their trails. Typically those groups have trail stewards, volunteers etc that tend to the various trail systems. Who knows - ya might even be able to gather a volunteer or two. I’m hoping for clear skies, long days, and productive fun for y’all.

Also pack the gravel layer by layer so it doesn't sink on later. In tight spots a brick will work as a hand tamper. Or you can get a grass hand tamp.

Hi Ladies! Just got a ‘recommended’ link to you channel. I do a lot of construction and trail work. It’s a wise idea to hire an arborist to see what tree is good or bad! Also, for lumber hauling up a trail; maybe consider rigging up a pulley system. Find the strongest tree highest on your property then connect a cable that reaches your vehicle downhill. You can use your vehicle to go in reverse thereby using its weight to haul heavy stuff, dragging it up hill. Don’t know how you feel about machinery, but maybe consider renting a mini excavator for footings for your house(s). Anyway I’m happy for you ladies! Be careful and have fun. I’ll continue to watch the builds!!

For your bridge idea you could use the same boards you bought for the top and box in the bottom for structural support with 2x4 or 2x6, then bolt as many sections together as you need/want to get your desired width. Stain or burn all the pieces before assembly to help with the the elements and the bugs. The add 4x4’s or 2x4’s to the side and run rope through for an handrail. Place gravel under the ends to help keep it from sitting in water and to help level. You ladies got this!!

Your stairs are beautiful. That’s a lot of work, but I’m so glad you did it because how well it turned out has to be encouraging. Could hammering Y-shape logs of varying heights into the ground as support posts, to create level on that uneven ground, and then laying a long log or series of them in the Y part to hold the logs, similar to making a log cabin wall framing. And then laying logs across it, similar to making a flat roof with little logs work for the bridge section? You probably won’t understand what I’m trying to say but you guys are brilliant, whatever you come up with will probably be awesome.

Would a live Q&A but you ask us questions on how to do the things you're trying to do be helpful? Like you could show us the spot, design or plan, etc... and surely there will be some experts or experienced folks or just people who have been there and learned before on there or come to the video later on that could give helpful hints. KZbin is great for learning to do things but every situation is different and it's not all universal so having an opportunity to learn from people who may have had a similar unique project would be helpful. Better materials and supplies, more efficient techniques, longer lasting designs, etc... Sorry if is a dumb idea I've just done A LOT of projects by myself too with just youtube to learn from and some things it would have been great to have had someone to talk to about it. It'd also be great for others to refer to in doing their own work. Anyways, love what you two are doing and so excited for you!
