One time I put my vehicle on the Ferry in Sitka headed south, I had to spend the night in Petersburg to catch a different Ferry to Prince Rupert the next day. I drove down the Mitkoff Highway and pitched my tent in a campground south of Petersburg. Springtime, huge skunk cabbage in the area. I saw all the little blond kids getting on the school bus the next morning on my way back to the Ferry terminal. Descendants of the Scandinavians who settled in Petersburg. Cool place...

Yeah we were careful not to choose sedimentary rocks! I believe those are the ones that explode!

@@AdventureTimeLoui now I have to go looking up what sedimentary rocks are, thanks Loui!! I live in upstate NY, I don't have much knowledge of rocks except that the right ones can make a spark if you are desperate.

@@AdventureTimeLoui what I've read is not to ever use ANY rocks that come from a river or stream because they can trap water inside and explode when they get hot enough. I know how nice those rocks look for this project, but I sincerely hope you replace them with some rocks that you find elsewhere. It's much better to be safe than sorry. Just because they didn't yet doesn't mean that they got hot enough. I don't want to see you or your mom or anyone else who accompanies you get hurt.

Don't use river rocks in a fire. They can explode when the water expands. From little chunks to worse. Glad you didn't hurt but find other rocks to be safe.

I was always told not to use rocks out of a river or stream for a fire ring. They are saturated with water and can explode. Love the property. Glad to see you enjoying family time.

Great seeing you settle back into Alaska and spend quality time with your mom. One question though; where is the RECIPE?!? That looked and sounded so good!!! My grandma used to fill her chest freezer with zucchini bread when I was growing up and she would pass it out to family as we cycled through each year. It was delicious so I can only imagine what adding chocolate to the mix would do to it. Can we PLEASE have the recipe? Beautiful hiking spot!

We went on a 2 week Alaskan Adventure with Linblad Expeditions. One of the stops was Petersburg. Southeast Alaska is amazing. We traveled the Inside Passage.

We have family that lives in/near Eagle River, they love it where they live too. Cherish your Mom (advice from an old lady 🙂).
