I remember when you used what you knew instead of what your phone knows. That is when it was worth while. Back in 1998 when I started selling on eBay we used to find $100 items for a dollar or two on a regular basis. Occasionally we would find a $400+ find for a few dollars and those were the good deals. An hour at garage sales and then another at the local thrift store would usually net you enough items to sell for the week on eBay and make you anywhere from $200-$2,000 for the week.

That "blanket" is a bedspread and the fabric is chenille which was the only kind of spread to have back in the day. Bedspread's prob'ly wort more than the glasses. Solds on eBay range from $30, a bunch $90-100 area, to one that went for $300.

As a book only reseller, I would NOT recommend sitting at an estate sale all day. I don't do this because if I start doing this, the people running the sales will start paying closer attention to what books go for cheap and which ones don't. Sitting there looking up items is a dead giveaway they should do more research and believe me they WILL. You really just need to compile a mental list of the genre, covers, and subjects that sell the best. Get in and get out.

A lot of the estate sale companies in Phoenix pulled the same crap with the pricing and the people running them often had a brick and mortar store so they got the leftovers dirt cheap and turned around and sold them in their stores or on eBay. I haven't checked out any in KY yet but will probably try in January or February. That last sale was awesome and I'm glad that guy got to keep his stuff to sell himself!

Dave wasn't being scammed ... it was the person pricing the estate items that was "shady". I think what happens is whatever doesn't sell goes to the estate selling company, so they'll overprice items, they won't sell, then they'll take them and sell them to make more profit - but it didn't work this time - the man selling in his garage was able to get the items back and sell them himself.

For $1ea per book there was A LOT of potential money in that place. Books are worth hella money when you can get them that cheap. Especially really any older hardcover books just usually sell for a minimum of $15-$20 and $15 is legit just if that book is a “bust” as far as books go. Legit very little risk of actually losing money. Which is why I didn’t think what you said was entirely accurate. You don’t need to sit there for 6-7hrs looking up books. For $1ea you could legit just buy the entire library and make money. Guaranteed. Or just pic all older looking hardcovers without looking up. It’s srsly that easy. Then @38:10ish im legit drooling looking at those old books on shelves there lmao.
