You need headwork. The K20 head does not have enough flow stock to make power past 9K RPM NA. You'd need a port and valve job. Even then, the engine is too squared. It's literally not designed to make power there. You will never make power near even 9.5K and not need a rebuild every 300 miles because your valvetrain is destroying itself. Give up on chasing power and just enjoy the car.

@10:53. This is useful information. Instead of just having a filter directly over the intake trumpets, put a box that clicks in to the filter mount, and have a duct Go over to somewhere for a cold air intake. The problem isn't running an air filter. The problem is you're running an air filter directly on top of your velocity stacks. This is always a bad idea for power. Look at every single sport bike. Not only do they have velocity stacks like yours with ITBs, but they will use a panel filter located away from the top of the stacks. Filter fills a box like a plenum, and that box feeds the trumpets just like open air.

I owned an 09 SE3P S2 R3 for 4 years before mine went to an 06 AP2. Although I'm bound to get a rebuttal for saying that. But the R3 drives fantastic. I know I can't forget the feeling today! I put the DFV on R3 to get a little camber and it was amazing in the corners. And it's a much stronger car than the FD3S. I would say the unmodified 997.1 Carrera is not as good as the R3. The S2000 has similar power to the R3, but for me there was a bit of torture and I couldn't enjoy the corners. I need to focus on the rear wheel all the time. It was even willing to turn excessively on freeway ramps. The factory settings on both of them are enjoyable, but if you want power, they both need to be supercharged. The se3p has the turbosource kit, or you can swap 13b-rew, or 4 or 5 rotary, that's absolutely evil. The S2000 being a Honda doesn't need to worry about mods, you know.

@bruce_son2 ай бұрын
On STD correction? They always read about 5% higher than more common SAE correction. Also, ITBs are super difficult to tune to correctly make power. You need the correct combination of all parts for it to work well which I believe is the source of their problems. I suspect they could make more power going back to the stock intake manifold. You lose the inertial tuning effects of the plenum and intake piping. However, it’s still possible for them to change runner lengths via trumpet sizing.
@markmartin73842 ай бұрын
Less displacement, stock heads, and ITBs are probably too big slowing airflow
@JonHop12 ай бұрын
@@GalliJZ Its not tho... Its important that Dyno's are calibrated to be consistent, so customers can get accurate and consistent readings. If you go to one shop, get 240, and another shop reads 210, it can be thought there is a problem with your engine. So no, its not stupid at all...

Runner Length. There are basic calculators out there to help you find out a good length to start with. ITBs are extremely sensitive to tuned lengths. Ben if you haven't yet, check out Garage 4AGE. He's got many well documented dyno runs on his 220whp 10,000 rpm ITB Starlet and thats with 1.6 liters. Look closely at the intake runner length videos. The length needed to make best power across the range is way longer than you'd expect. Some of it can be fixed with Cam advance. Then as found in the video, you have the tuned length of the exhaust, which the engine is much more sensitive to on ITBs. The same concept was proven in Garage 4AGE's K24 tuning videos (normal intake manifolds).
