As Captain Q would say, "If it floats, it is a 10!" To be honest, for the price, the legal trailabilty, the fact you can have it parked at home to work on, brings it to a 17 on the Q scale for me. I may go higher or lower after seeing the rest of the video. I am only 5m2s in so far. It is a steal at this point though!

Mate an electric motor seriously, they are a great idea for push bikes and E Scooters but in a boat your taking your life in your hands. Cheers

I had a Corsair F-24 and now a Farrier F-22. They are great sailing, fun boats. I've taken each one of them to the Bahamas twice, once single handed and once double handed, for about 3 weeks. As you mentioned payload is the limiting factor. We weighed everything, I mean everything on the boat and were over the total load by about 100lbs. It really makes a difference in performance and in safety in rough weather. I've recently looked at F-27s and surprisingly the payload is only about 100-200 lbs more than the F-22 which has higher volume floats. Anyway, good luck. You will enjoy it. FYI 'payload' includes sails, motor, gas AND crew plus everything else like tools, water, food, etc.

I’ve owned an F-27 in the UK for around 20 years now. They are fast and seaworthy boats. My best advice is to pressure wash the interior carpet. It’s the only way I’ve found to get all the filth out - she’ll look spotless after.

You could probably build some sort of storage locker in the bottom of the aft cabin that has access doors on the top of it. That would raise the sleeping surface about a foot, but it would allow you to put a wider mattress there so all three of you cold sleep comfortably in that space. It would reduce the amount of head space you have, but would give you more storage and make sleeping together in that space a possibility. Then you wouldn't need to sleep separately in the salon. I really like the design of this boat.

I think another KZbin couple got a free loan of a corsair 27 for 3 or 6 months except of course brand new. The thing is that they are still making them so you can see and easily hopefully incorporate some of the more modern aspects which through trial and error they have made to make it a more comfortable and better boat.

I would build a false floor in the aft cabin to increase the width of the sleeping area with access to below it for dry goods storage. I agree with an electric motor. I would try to make one of the areas in mid-cockpit into a sealed propane locker. I would also find a way to add a fridge/freezer area somewhere. So much potential in the below decks! A lot of work and rethinking design and layout but this could be easily made into a long term live-a-board until you get fed up with being hunched over. My Q rating is at 20 now. You two have a wonderful boat! I can't wait to see what you do with it! I hope you both continue to do reviews on other boats, as that is your bread and butter for subscribers. Those who have followed your journey will watch your dreams come into fruition. There will be some that subscribe for that. I think there are many subscribers that want to see the options that they might have to find their own "dream" though. Just an honest opinion as to why I have subscribed as I would bet many others have. A sincere congratulations to the both of you on this great find! This post was entered at the 18m30s point in the video. I am so glad to hear that you will both continue reviewing others. Hence the edit.

Watching Billy and Sierra sail their borrowed trimaran, they had a blast with it. It took some getting use to compared to what they were comfortable with. You can fix this one up with your skills and easily triple your investment, plus have a great time sailing it. I think this was an excellent price and opportunity. The perfect boat to fit in your yard while you work on it. I'm happy for you guys.😊 🤝🤝👍👍👍👍👍👍👍

Incredible steal you guys! Your boat does not actually look THAT bad and Corsairs in general are very popular and maintain their value very well. You went through the whole tour, and I am thinking: "Wonder if they got any sails since that would add thousands to the refit." Then you showed a whole bunch of very costly mylar sails! If they are in decent condition, you have really hit the jackpot! One downside - once you go out sailing on this F27, you will be spoiled for just about everything else. I have an '83, 20' Super Tramp, one of Farrier's earliest folding designs and it is much heavier and underpowered compared to the F27. I love sailing it around the "lead bottomed boats" when winds are light, and when it gets up a bit (about 15 knots in my boat) the fun really begins! Can't wait to see the project videos and your first sail on her! You should probably take someone who is familiar with sailing Corsairs with you that first time! After reading all the comments - if the point is to keep the boat, by all means go electric. For better re-sale, stick with a cheap used outboard. You will maximize your return that way.

Jordan, be cautious of any glass repairs that were left exposed for some time. Depending on the resin used, they can be very weak and may need to be redone before fairing and painting.
@Cajundaddydave

Congrats! This is a super fast, super fun boat for weekends or a week vacation anywhere in the US. She has a ton of deferred maintenance so all hardware and glass needs inspection, all rigging over 10 years needs to go, and any unnecessary hardware should come off. I spent some quality time racing these with John Walton back in the day and the F-27 was his baby. The interior is tight but very useable especially by adding a deck tent when at anchor. Not enough space for a large solar array so I would reverse the decision to go electric and stick with a 6-8hp XL long shaft OB for reliable aux propulsion to get you out of trouble or home for sure if the wind dies or you have rig issues. Cheers!

Can't overemphasize the value of not requiring a slip, in terms of saving money, working on any part anytime, and boat deterioration. Plus you aren't limited to one starting point. I like the larger (27 & 37) Corsairs a lot, especially if you are into camping. When I win the Powerball, one of my sailboats is going to be the carbon fiber F-37. The obvious great things about them are speed and tiny draft. You can get where you are going, stay ahead of storms, crank up the amases(?) to get into a small slip and great stability while sailing and at anchor. On the other hand, they are also tiny inside. My first real sailboat was a Pearson 26. We took it, actually it took us, all up and down the west coast of Florida, the Dry Tortugas, Key West (dodging a hurricane) and the rest of the Keys. Great for two people for a couple of weeks. But, by comparison, my cabin space from the main hatch forward was real, real close to that of the Corsair 37. The 27 is far smaller by volume. But you do have very good storage in the two amasi. It will be a fun sailboat. However, under no circumstances should you sleep in the aft cabin. It is a death trap. So, postulate you are anchored in a harbor, behind an island or just off the coast, sleeping in the aft cabin, when some entrepreneurs sneak up to your boat, board it and either close the cabin off with a piece of wood they brought ( because burglars do prepare sometimes), or shoot some pepper spray through the hatch (again preparation) and uncomfortably disable you or even simpler, one guy straddles the hatch with a club and whacks you every time you try to stick your head out. In the best case scenario, the other robbers steal everything and leave. On the other hand, maybe they just steal the boat with you in it. When they are ten or fifteen miles off shore, they let you out and say, "We are a kind and generous people. We mean you no harm. The beach is that way. Have a nice swim." Of course, even assuming you and your family could swim 10 - 15 miles, you wouldn't really know if "that way" was actually in the direction of the beach. See what I mean? So, bad, bad, bad, bad, bad, idea. It's not even a reasonable idea when your boat is on the trailer in your side yard. Use it for storage. Sleep elsewhere.

Definitely a warm, fair weather little boat. As was clearly shown & stated in the video, very little interior space, ultra light payload & ultimately most of your time very exposed top side. I guess it makes sense in Florida & those environs but here on Vancouver Island it would never be seen. All the best with your refit. Heaps of work & oh that old smelly, moldy carpet every where. Certainly not good for the wee little one to be breathing. Hope the sails are salvageable. Cheers.

OK, you asked. You are both working, you have a two yea old baby, you are still committed to boat tours. Just how much time do you expect to have for DIY on this boat? You mentioned stepping up to another boat in a year. There is much more than a years worth of work to be done here. If it were the only project I guess much more than a year. Will your neighbors put up with a work in progress for that long? Then the price. $10K is probably a good price. But how much will you have to put with that to make it sailable, to say nothing of saleable. To make more than $10K you will have to put in no more than another $10K. Any more than that and you are giving away your time. Then you mentioned possibly being aboard for up to a month. I would guess murder or mutiny long before that. You kids are not dummies. Therefore I expect you have considered all these things, and more. I hope your calculations and considerations are correct. I am among your 95K subscribers. I think we all wish you good luck. Thank you for sharing. Have a great day and stay safe.

I think there is at least one couple that spends the winter in Boot Key Harbor on a mooring. They trailer it down from up north. Such a great location for this type of boat. Hope to see you out on the water here when you get to that point.

I just spotted this so I've got some catching up to do. I'd love to have a Corsair, but I'm also someone that solo sails. With a growing family, I'd refit and sell as soon as possible.
