Recently we decided to purchase a two-masted 70ft wooden schooner in Brazil. The fun detail about our story is that the boat we bought was sinking and relying on many bilge pumps to survive so we had to lift it onto the dry to start a full refit. Once the boat was lifted (for the first time in her life) we realized that the works needed were a lot more than expected. Between bailing or accepting the challenge, we decided to go for the second option. Watch us as we bring Yabá back to life with the help of an amazing team of traditional shipwrights, sharing every phase of the process, overcoming the highs and lows and having fun along the way.

I remember when you guys got the bad news that the hull was in way worse shape than you expected, you could see MP fighting back the tears, that was heartbreaking. You guys didn't give up and the team of carpenters/shipwrights that you found are fantastic. You both have learned so much. The fact that you have documented it all and brought us all along has been wonderful and something that hopefully can be shared with people for all time. What an incredible journey. At the time I could not know how poor a condition Yab'a was in . I can now say that I was right .Thank the gods .And I thank them again for guiding you to the best group of shipwrights for the task .With all of the love and care you are putting in to bring Yab'a back to her former glory ,and the care you will take of her in the future she will Take you to any where you ever want to go .So many people in this world see only with there eye's ,some with only there hearts .But for the lucky few they see thru there dreams as you do . I count myself lucky to know you even in this way .So I stand now with my arm raised with glass in hand and pray . I think it was fitting that the oldest member of the ship builders crew planed off the final few mm of the plank. Was it just just me who thought he stood there rather emotional after he did that? It might be the last Whiskey Plank he fits to any boat. I though he looked very subdued when you were raising the glasses too. Well done old man. Crazy skills. From wreck to renewal in 7 months.
