Sir your point is valid, it is possible that you start with some speed less than escape velocity and keep a constant thrust such that F(thrust)=mg. But this is lacking some practical consideration. If you might have studied in spring mass and similar system is F (force is applied gradually such) in a quasi static process such that at each point net force is zero we get F=kx or x=F/k But if this force is given suddenly then from energy conservation F.x=1/2kx^2 or x=2F/k So we see from same force elongation is twice. So overall consideration is that to escape out of gravity if all the thrust is provided initially at full potential then less thrust force will be needed as compared to keeping a constant velocity(less than escape velocity) and providing thrust force gradually to maintain equilibrium i.e. F=mg. And now you know that how much fuel saving it will do. Another aspect is that we are considering projection. Not every object has a motor, if you want to shot a bullet or a stone - you will not attach a thrust motor to it. Lastly you want to save us from hustle of changing the force as gravity changes with elevation, this will be a better idea. I hope it helped us all develop some understanding.

And, Gaurav's logic is right when the rocket goes with velocity double the required velocity that is 2 X Escape velocity and in Gaurav's assumption it is less than 2 X Escape velocity not Escape velocity so it will cross tthe atmosphere in more time. Without escape velocity, eventually the object flying upwards will come down under the influence of earth's gravitational field. Take the example of a ball. No matter with how much force you throw it towards the sky, even with external force, it will eventually come down because the earth's mass is way greater than the mass of the ball so the downward pull on the ball will be tremendously huge as compared to the upward force on the ball. So we need an escape velocity to equalise the momentum of the ball and earth then only will it be able to fly past the moon. Hence escape velocity 11km/sec is required and spacecrafts cannot fly below this velocity otherwise they will come crashing down soon after .

You typed one sentence that downward pull on the ball is huge .. I agree it ... When we throw the ball with max force traveling in velocity opposite to the gravitational force , at one point velocity of ball becomes zero n as gravitational force is still constant , the ball comes down ... Then how come spacecraft of constant velocity can't reach to the space ?( as we'll give it constant velocity) ... I think to leave one atmosphere n enter to whole new atmosphere containing different type of particles in it ( frictional force will be different in those two comparing atmospheres ) so maybe giving a sudden change in velocity helps to enter the space (gives that kick to the spacecraft to bear with the frictional force of other atmosphere) ... Am I right ? 😅 ( I learnt this in 12th now I'm studying biotech , so I have no connection with Physics anymore .. I hate physics but I had to ask this )

@@akshatavaidya8281 somewhere down the line fluid friction is also crucial in the process of launching a rocket but the point here that I was trying to state that if that you launch any spacecraft below the escape velocity i.e. 11km /s the rocket will be able to leave the surface of the earth but not its gravitational field, so it will either keep on orbiting the earth or fall back to the surface. but if we employ escape velocity, the rocket would get sufficient centrifugal force to traject it into an open curve away from the planet. in concise you need a thrust greater than that of earth's gravity.

The question about the escape velocity really intrigued me. So, for those who are curious, here is a good answer. Actually, the answer lies in the conditions assumed in the definition of E.V itself. While defining escape velocity of calculating it, we assume that after we have given it a certain velocity off the ground THE SOLE FORCE ACTING ON IT IS THE EARTH'S GRAVITATIONAL FIELD, even air resistance is not counted!(theoretically, of course). Now to the part, why we can't propel a spacecraft by applying force to maintain constant velocity? After launching, if we are able to maintain constant velocity, we will be able to take it to space. (If we applying a force in the air, then the concept of escape velocity can't be applied) I think, we already apply force to provide acceleration. If it weren't for a force, a rocket's speed would keep on decreasing, but it never does! This implies that the acceleration in the form propulsion that we are providing is not only cancelling the air resistance but is providing more than that! Interesting, isn't it? Lastly, I feel that the concept of escape velocity is not really applied like we study it initially (prep times!), cause I don't think we will ever be able spontaneously launch a heavy piece of metal at this high a speed, hence the propulsion system which keep on accelerating it till it is fairly out of the Gravitational field. Also since this is not possible atleast not now so we use escape velocity . It's Like giving a very hard punch to the rocket 🚀 and the punches force is what gets it out in space .

So yes, of course it is possible to keep going upwards and further from the earth, but without reaching escape velocity you would eventually be pulled back to earth when the fuel runs out. Asli me we would need enormous amount of fuel if we go slower than escape velocity which is inefficient and not possible for any spacecraft to have that amount of fuel.

Not a single rocket achieved escape velocity till today. Basic behind the concept of escape velocity is that it only applies when we are just giving a push or thrust to any object on earth surface not a constant force throughout the flight, obviously rockets leave the earths gravitational field without achieving escape velocity because they have a constant force for propulsion and it is practically not possible to give escape velocity to any object today. Escape velocity =11.2km/sec means 40320 km/hour speed at once

When you say that the force is constant, the gravitational pull is also constant and the force applied by propulsion is also constant but the fact that the gases are ejected from the rocket shows that the overall mass of the rocket is continuously decreasing and therefore, applying F=ma shows that if mass Is decreasing then acceleration has to increase at a constant force. So, even though force is constant, the rocket is still accelerating. Now, about the escape velocity, there are two reasons, firstly if you are sending the rocket at a constant velocity, the rocket will decelerate(velocity reduces) until its velocity becomes zero and eventually will fall. Also, moving the rocket at a constant acceleration against the forces of gravity and air resistance it is very difficult to maintain that and therefore fuel consumption is very high which is not feasible and good for the nature

escape velocity is the minimum speed needed for a free, non-propelled object to escape from the gravitational influence of a massive body. so if the object is propelled then the object will go out surely if constant thurst is provided.

The escape velocity is the minimum velocity with which if u throw something then it will escape earth's gravitaional sphere.......Matlab escape velocity aapko bs ek baar deni hai...uske baad kuch ni karna ....uske baad vo cheej apne aap nikal jayegi. If u want to escape something with constant velocity then u will have to provide it constant power during its journey and that takes a lot of fuel ⛽ Both the situations are almost ideal That's why Interplanetary spacecrafts goes through a number of manoeuvres so that they will get that much velocity. (This also reduces fuel consumption because planet's gravitational force is also used in accelarating the craft).

10:38 We all know that satellite moves in a elliptical orbit around the earth so if you apply an external velocity to it (other than its orbital velocity) then its orbit will become expaned but still it will keep rotating about the earth (expansion of orbit means the perigee and apogee will become higher with respect to earth surface as it was before applying the external vel.). Now if you keep applying that velocity (no matter weather it is constant or variable ) to that satellite then ultimately its orbital velocity will become its escape velocity and it will escape the earth's gravitational feild.

And mass is continuously decreasing (as fuel burns) Hence if m decreases we have to increase dv/dt (for equilibrium) 2nd point If v = constant a= dv/dt =0 hence force equilibrium can't achieved . Nope that's not how it works, there is no air resistance in space. We can go with slower speed than escape velocity but in order to do that a rocket would need enormous amount of fuel. It is not necessary to travel at 11km/s to escape the earth's gravity, any speed will do, as long as you keep going up. 11km/s is known as escape velocity because a body travelling up at this speed at the earth's surface will keep going up without any further force being applied so yes you can go at lower speed than escape velocity but you would need enormous amount of fuel and if you don't achieve escape velocity then the rocket would fell back to earth when the fuel vanishes due to Earth's gravitational pull.

Escape velocity is that minimum velocity required by a body at earth's surface to escape out from the Earth's gravitational field. So, at that velocity kinetic energy of the body is equal to the total energy difference between g=9.8 and g=0. So if we give velocity lower than escape velocity the Kinetic energy wouldn't be equal to the above said energy difference and to compensate that we will have to do work, in simple words we have to apply force.

We apply escape velocity once at once, you can even reach to space at 1 km/h if you apply constant force to maintain that constant velocity 1 km/h. (And it's not called escape velocity when you apply force throughout the path).

Bhaiya answer to your question ke agar hum ek constant speed se rocket ko chhod de toh upar kyu nahi jayenga?? . So basically gravity is not a constant force it changes with height, the higher and higher you go the more and more amt of gravitational pull you will feel . So when we a rocket is launched by a speed which is less than the escape velocity (11.2km/s) , on it the force acting downwards increases and the upward force (upthrust) which was given during the take off decreases. Let's say, the escape velocity is V. You launched the rocket with velocity V/2 , then initially the forces acting upwards are more in number than the forces acting on the down (ie mg of the rocket) {also one point to be noted is the higher and higher you go, the mass decreases } . Ok so back to point , when the rocket covers some distance , it is having the air friction and the mg which is pulling it down and only the velocity which is taking it up (note the upthrust can't be considered here) . So in this case the rocket will come down and crash that's why the minimum escape velocity is given which is 11.2km/s.

answer to Gaurav bhai 's question at 10:00 If you managed to maintain the object going at a constant velocity, then it means that you somehow have managed to counter the force applied by gravity at every instant, so in way, gravity has now been countered provided you apply a force as a function of time f(t) = G*m*M/(R-vt)^2 , which can be calculated using simple formulae, so yeah if you manage to maintain it at a constant velocity , you can make it escape
