I think another important takeaway here was that there are a ton of logistical problems that came out from the blip and the real world problems that happened once everyone came back. Thanks for enjoying another MCU offering, you two! Isaiah Bradley's story was one of the most interesting aspects of this show to me. I'm not sure anyone saw it coming -- most reactors, even the comics-savvy ones, were surprised to see his character make an appearance. And yes, it's based on an actual comic book character. Isaiah Bradley's story is told in the Marvel Comics limited series "Truth: Red, White and Black". The D+ series deviates from the original story in some of the details of Isaiah's experience, but the brutality and inhumanity of it remains.

In comic books, Marvel characters John Walker, Isaiah Bradley, Bucky Barnes, and Sam Wilson assume the role of Captain America. Since 1987, I've been a fan of Captain America. John Walker is The Anti-Cap. Growing up, my Captain Americas were Steve Rogers and John Walker. Mark Gruenwald designed John Walker to be the total opposite of Captain America. John Walker's first appearance was as Super-Patriot in Captain America #323(November 1986), Created by Mark Gruenwald and Paul Neary. As Captain America in Captain America #333 (September 1987, Created by Mark Gruenwald and Tom Morgan. As U.S. Agent in Captain America #354 (June 1989), Created by Mark Gruenwald and Kieron Dwyer. I loved dancing Zemo. Sam Wilson is Cap for the People. Author Nick Spencer and artist Daniel Acua delved headfirst into contemporary US politics in the first issue of the 2015 relaunch Captain America: Sam Wilson, as Sam openly rejects the US government on behalf of the typical American citizen. Detractors' assertion that Sam is "not their Captain America" was cleverly crafted by Spencer. One of the rare times in Marvel Comics history where a title directly interacted with contemporary social issues, Captain America: Sam Wilson, from that point on, explicitly addressed complex and contemporary societal topics. Sam believed it was crucial for Captain America to demonstrate that he was a Cap for the people by making it clear who he was fighting for in a way Steve never quite did. I especially appreciate Sam's comic-accurate Captain America costume. Finally, I enjoyed the comic-accurate costume of the U.S. Agent.

I've been looking forward to you two getting to this show. 😊 This was one of my favorite MCU shows so far. We see Sam's journey to becoming Captain America. And his friendship with Bucky. This show did however have the most impact, as far as filming and script changes went, from the COVID pandemic. Filming was shut down soon after it had started, and the storyline with the Flagsmashers was changed. Fun Fact #1: Don Cheadle was nominated for an Emmy for this couple minute guest spot for his return as Rhodey Rhodes in the first episode. Fun Fact #2: Wyatt Russell(John Walker) is the real life son of actor Kurt Russell, who played Ego in "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2". It was great seeing past characters, like Rhodey, Zemo, and Sharon Carter come back. And of course, we had the awesome Wakandan Dora Milaje guard show up. Fun Fact #3: The Dora Milaje guard that showed up at the end of the 3rd episode was Ayo. She's second in command next to Okoye. And she was the one traveling with T'Challa in "Captain America: Civil War", and told Natasha "Move or be moved". Loved the newer characters. Joaquin Torres(who in the comics becomes the new Falcon after Sam officially takes the mantle of Captain America). John Walker- Wyatt Russell did a great job portraying him. Especially when he becomes unhinged after Lamar's death. And of course, Isiah Bradley fabulously portrayed by actor Carl Lumbly. That was a great twist having it turn out that Sharon Carter was the Powerbroker. More of that will probably be explored in the upcoming Don Cheadle/War Machine movie. Looking forward to "Loki" next in the MCU. And looking forward to the next reaction. 😊

Sharons been bad news since Civil War, people were just blinded because she's pretty and people shipped her and Steve. Firstly, she went after Steve romantically, even though she knew her dying aunt was in love with him her entire life, and it was mutual. Then she manipulated Cap at Peggys FUNERAL, pushing him to not sign the accords and be a free agent and causing the rift, and continuing the romantic involvement. Then she got caught stealing the items for Cap and had to run, then basically ran a criminal underworld, doing tons of shady stuff to make money. Now she's going to steal government secrets and sell them...

Here's a very important thing about the Captain America mantle and the shield to understand: The holder of the shield is seen as the moral center of the superhero community by the public, so once John Walker had the shield, Sam could not simply take the shield no matter how badly Bucky wanted him to. Sam could only legitimately take the shield once the public rejected John Walker. In the comic books, Bucky tried to take up the shield, and it just didn't work because of his past as an assassin. Even though the assassinations weren't his fault, it was simply too hard for the public and other heroes to see him as a moral leader. I love the "androids, aliens and wizards" line from Sam. My father was a career military officer, and that is definitely the kind of term American officers would cook up to try and process & talk about all this superhero stuff. My father really laughed at that line when we watched it together. The line about "Black Falcon" is a fun joke about comic books in general. Comic books are super inconsistent about when that word is a racial designation. The "Black" in Black Panther is almost certainly racial. So is the white in White Wolf (the only white guy in Wakanda). But Black Widow and Black Canary are both white women. Black Lightning is an African-American. White Tiger is a Latino (and later a Latina). Because of this inconsistency, a lot of people will add "Black" to the names of Black superheroes when it doesn't belong.

Even though Savannah, Georgia was used as a stand-in for Delacroix, this is still right up Anthony Mackie’s wheelhouse. He grew in New Orleans, and if you were to go fishing in the South you’d be lucky to have him as your guide. The dock scenes were filmed in Atlanta. It made it easier for Emily VanCamp’s schedule because she was also working on the Fox medical drama called The Resident. In January 2020, the scenes for Riga, Latvia were originally supposed to be filmed in Arecibo, Puerto Rico as a stand-in. However, they had to film elsewhere due to a series of earthquakes at the time. So they relocated to Prague, where they previously filmed Spider-Man: Far From Home. By the time they started filming there in March of the same year, COVID happened which forced everyone to leave. They had to halt production until October when they were finally able to return. On the bright side, the shutdown allowed them to move along with the post-production. Just a little reminder: Ayo [pronounced Ah-yo] (portrayed by Florence Kasumba) who appears on the last scene of episode 3 is the same Dora Milaje who told Black Widow to either move aside or be moved in Civil War. She was also in a couple of scenes in Black Panther 2018. One of my favorite emotional parts of this show was the flashback where Bucky gained some sense of relief knowing he was finally free from HYDRA’s Winter Soldier programming. I also have mad respect for Sam having a reasonable conversation with Karli. He’s one of those people who learns as he goes along. Perspective is definitely of his key qualities. He may not always have the answers, but he does listen. That’s clearly a huge contrast from what John was doing. He thinks Bucky has it easy with the serum, but Bucky himself never wanted that either. At least Lemar was being more reasonable. Zemo has an extreme way of thinking, but we can agree that the serum is dangerous especially when whoever has it also has a dark mindset. Like Dr. Erskine said, good becomes great while bad becomes worse. They tested John’s speed, endurance, and IQ, but they forgot about his heart. That’s what Dr. Erskine banked on when he picked Steve. I feel like the Senator is the catalyst to a lot that happened including Karli and John. Karli and her fellow Flag Smashers wouldn’t have gone overboard if he and the fellow reps had bothered to make an effort. The US Government may have discarded John like a spent weapon, but they also weren’t like “Hey guess what: we don’t have super serum, but as soon as you find some you take it.” And Lemar’s sister wasn’t fooled. I didn’t notice it true first time, but when I rewatched it in Spanish with my family (who were watching it for the first time), my own sister picked up on that. It makes sense. Maybe they don’t have social media, but she undoubtedly has more access to current events and the footage itself doesn’t lie. Anthony Mackie practiced that speech over the phone for hours with the show’s creator and head writer Malcolm Spellman so they would make sure it was properly executed on scene. This leads up to Anthony Mackie having his own Captain America movie releasing next year called Brave New World. It was previously titled New World Order. Ayo will return in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.

Remember the first Captain America movie when general Phillips argued with Dr. Erskine about who should be given the serum? John Walker is exactly the kind of person General Phillips would have selected, and we find out here why Erskine was right. John Walker is like Loki in that you keep hoping he will do the right thing even though you know he's going to disappoint you more often than not. If you pay attention to what advice Lemar gives to John, both of them could have avoided tragedy if John just listened to Lamar. There was probably a bit of mild racism that caused John to disregard the advice of his friend, and that had deadly consequences.

If you remember the second Captain America movie, they changed Sam Wilson's background from social worker to pararescue. In case you don't know, pararescue are special Air Force units that train to rescue downed pilots from behind enemy lines (training new pilots is very expensive). Sam Wilson's wings were supposedly a prototype for pararescue. So nice that they finally showed him doing what he trained for in the Air Force. In the comic books, Redwing is an actual falcon that Sam has a telepathic connection with. I hope you like Joaquin Torres. In the comic books, he is the next Falcon. I love that Sam has nephews, so he is a literal "Uncle Sam." That boat does a lot of heavy lifting in this show when it comes to metaphors. The writers were so good.

Agent Sharon Carter: She became an outlaw for helping Captain America and his crew in "Civil War." Some of the crew were arrested, and others went on the run like Black Widow and Carter.... Personally, I think that she is more valuable to the CIA as the Power Broker, since she can already contact all of the people looking for weapons, etc. This way, they could track potential dangers to the security of the USA and allies. It would be like having an undercover cop in a drug ring. That is my guess, at least. We will see, though -- at least, I hope we will see in the next season of Captain America and White Wolf/Panther. just Bucky or whichever moniker he chooses to use.

Isiah Bradley did the exact same thing in the Korean war that Steve Rogers did in WW2: he disobeyed orders, went behind enemy lines, and used his superpowers to save the lives of a large number of American soldiers. But Isiah was Black, and the idea of a Black soldier with superpowers who disobeyed orders freaked out the white officers, so instead of being hailed as a hero, he was thrown in a prison cell. If you're interested in his story, read the comic book "Red, White, and Black." Zemo was part of a Sokovian unit whose job was to track down and kill Hydra agents, which means Sokovian intelligence was more on the ball than either the CIA or the KGB, both of whom failed to notice Hydra operating in their own countries. In the comic books, Zemo is a Nazi, but here he is shockingly racially aware, which makes him a very interesting villain.

Considering that the MCU skipped 5 years after Thanos it actually makes sense that the shows are all happening around the same time. In that way the MCU's timeline moves slower and we can catch it by the time when the actual big movies of this new saga come out. That actually helps considering that the MCU is mostly accurate scientifically,so if they continue moving forward with 5 years of leverage without knowing if something relevant is going to become a thing in those 5 years, the movies might lack things that we are actually going to have. Let's say they present a new model of car from 2028,but in here you have that car in 2023,then the technology in the MCU would look lesser than IRL, which doesn't make sense. So the MCU timeline is right now barely outside 2025,but without the shows it would be around 2028. We're getting close. The thing about this show in particular is that the show is about symbols, idols, and the people who idealizes them ignoring their flaws. (Zemo literally said that in everyone's face) And most of people ended up proving his point. Sharon was a character who ended up being a criminal after Steve abandoned her for 7 years, even when she became a fugitive for helping him, even when he kissed her the very same day her aunt died, even when he told her to owed her a lot. But people decide to ignore that she's the result of one of the several mistakes Steve made. Sam became the same that Steve, saying dumb things in a stoic way, being hypocrite while lecturing about "killing is bad no matter which side you're on" (like the stereotypical "good boy") when he literally started the show making a bunch of people explode... Without mentioning that he's the entire show sympathizing with an sadistic, extremist, who's out there advocated to terrorism and threatening his family. However John, who's one of the better written characters of the MCU, with a very congruent and realistic background, who was the only one with the influence and authority to be doing what he did, with more experience and training than Steve ever had,and who was always cooperating and sharing information with Bucky and Sam,get trash from both of them just because of a title that he didn't choose. Having also people throwing a spear straight for his head just because, and terrorists conspiring against his life. A huge sign that people ignored about they just following sympathy instead of actually thinking is Sam talking to Karlie and John interrupting. How was that goin to be solved if he didn't stepped in? Was Sam going to say "now you need to spend your life in jail for terrorists activities, and you have to convince your friends of doing the same"?? That wasn't going anywhere! Karlie would've run away. Other thing is they chasing Walker and trying to fight him when he's definitely needing space. I'm just so happy that we have already the confirmation of Bucky,John, and Zemo being part of a team called 'thunderbolts' in the future. (A team full of sociopaths like them is gonna be just unstoppable)

The young lad with Isiah btw is called Patriot. In the comics he's part of the team Young Avengers. Probably Marvel are planning a movie or a series about the Young Avengers. We already have some in the MCU and now we are adding Patriot. Also Sam's friend Carlos will most likely become the new Falcon, because he let him the old wings and in the comics, Carlos becomes new Falcon after Sam is Captain America. TFATWS is really good series and i definetly enjoyed it, i don't know why this series are getting so much hate.

-There is actually a White Wolf in the Black Panther comics. He was an T'Challa'a and Shuri's adopted brother. He went by Hunter the White Wolf. He joined the royal family years before T'Challa was born. He wan a corrupted hero who turns villain. They blended it into Bucky in the MCU. -make sure you research Isaiah Bradleys' grandson, he most likely will show up again if they follow the comics....

43:00 I do agree that finding a peaceful resolution to issues is always ideal. But even the greatest advocates of peace like Dr. King Jr. knew that there are times when peace isn't an option. It's like he said, "a riot is the language of the unheard," sometimes peaceful protest just isn't enough & things have to get ugly before they can get better.

I was a comic-book-reading child in the 1970s. Falcon was not the first Black superhero, not by a longshot, but he was the first Black superhero that I noticed as a child, so he will always have a special place in my heart. His original story function in the comic books was to introduce the topic of racism to Captain America comic books. That is why in the comic books, he is a social worker (more opportunities for the topic to come up naturally). He even corrected Steve Rogers on microaggressions. So I was disappointed that Sam Wilson was not used for his traditional story function in the movies. This TV show made up for that in a big way. That bank scene was great, you know that kind of thing probably doesn't happen to white superheroes. The plot of this show was seriously messed up by the pandemic. Rumors say that the original script had a subplot in which there was a pandemic, and only the wealthy countries got the vaccine, and that this was the global event that the Flag Smashers was responding to. Unfortunately, COVID-19 happened, and this subplot was too similar to what actually happened with an actual pandemic, and so Disney had that subplot scrubbed. The sudden removal of this subplot left a lot of plot holes. Despite the flaws that come from the pandemic-related changes, I love this TV show because we finally get to see the Sam Wilson character used in a way that honors the source material. They even introduced Isiah Bradley, who has much harsher things to say about racism than Sam Wilson. I hope you liked Isiah's grandson Eli, as he is very likely a future member of the Young Avengers. Speaking of which, let's talk about the Young Avengers. Ant-Man: Cassie Lang: Stature Wandavision: Billy & Tommy Maximoff: Wiccan & Speed Falcon & the Winter Soldier: Eli Bradley: Patriot Hawkeye: Kate Bishop: Hawkeye It seems obvious that they are setting up a Young Avengers movie or TV show. The above is a nearly complete roster of the Young Avengers from the comic books.

John Walker's speech is an amazing indictment of how American politicians are happy to use soldiers as shields against criticism ("You don't support the troops"), then turn on them the moment something goes South. This is especially an issue with the lack of proper treatment for PTSD and various medical conditions following any American war. The contessa is a very complex character. Do not try to figure out what side she is on; she backstabs everyone given enough time.

The highlight of this series for me was the political side- how a black man would be treated as both a superhero and taking up a mantle like Captain America, previously held by a white man like Steve. You see this in real time with Sam but also in Isaiah's life. It makes total sense why Sam hesitated in the beginning taking the shield, between feeling of worthiness to how the public would react (when right now the society would have really needed uniting forces rather than decisive ones, seeing as the Blipped individuals just returned). But Sam was the perfect choice to continue on Steve's legacy- similar values, morals, experience with therapy/counselling traumatized individuals and has a better understanding of the conflicts of the modern day than Steve would have. Love how Bucky acknowledged that Steve and him completely overlooked that Sam's experience would be different because he was black

When I first watched this, I was really angry at Sam for turning down the shield that Steve had asked him to take over. But I came to consider that Sam felt it was too big a weight, that no one would ever live up to what Steve was.
