Isn't there some way to route the belt under the upper idler pulley and redesign the tensioner? Going under the upper idler would give it another 20⁰ of surface contact.

Hi Christopher. There's a way to do pretty much anything we want, but the questions really are cost and practicality. We could redesign the whole front end drive system. In fact, we have designed an alternative system which uses a Ford 7.3 Godzilla tensioner, acting in the opposite direction & passing the belt between the pulley and the tensioner body. It requires deleting the mechanical vacuum pump & installing a much larger bracket. We may yet offer this package, but it's several times more complicated and costly and we found that the simple tensioner upgrade accomplished the objective of eliminating belt slippage, at the stage of modifications we are now at.

My original tensioner only lasted 4 years/ 40k km before weakening to the point of noticeable belt slip - before I'd even swapped out the pulleys! Maybe it was just a bad unit. Replaced it with another one from JLR. If/when that one wears out I'll certainly be getting this upgrade.

They are definitely a 'wear' or 'service' item and will not last forever. It's nice to have a stronger unit available.

The way its routed looks wrong. I know thats how they come but it looks like the charger, crank and central idler are correct then the top idler and tensioner are just wrong altogether - like they are an afterthought. I would also love to know why makers don't use toothed belts when belt slip is one of the most common issues with a blower.
