@@deviousluxray5935 it wasn't the source material, it was the writers. They clearly lacked the cleverness, experience, or intelligence to write something like this. Most of my complaints are down to the poor writing, direction, set pieces, clothing, elves, dwarves, numenorians, etc.... And that's before you even start pointing out their abusing of the brand to further their social causes. I hope the new writers they bring in will give us something watchable before the end.

What's so irredeemable about it?
@kennethsatria6607 Жыл бұрын
@@PlutozReal Personally I think its more that some of the actors are too way up their own asses about its bravery as a reimagining of the books. Making a big deal out of black dwarves and black elves even though this is supposed to be super old european, not modern day when we're all jumping continents for generations. On its own as a show its alright with some minor storytelling flaws and shallow concepts but it functions. Galadriel isn't very sympathetic though I do like that they try to show it as a bad thing when she wants to destroy all orcs and make them suffer. Its like a DC comics CW show basically but with LOTR, thank god they didn't get Silmarilion if this was what they wanted to do with it.

@arcanos416711 ай бұрын
@@kennethsatria6607 Not to mention that there would still have been plenty of options to include black people for say, Tribesmem or traders from Far Harad or Nafarati and even as dwarfs (Orocarni mountains far to the east for example) they just didn't even bother checking their options and then had the balls to compare the fans that stood up with a Tolkien quote that goes something along the lines of for they had no idea about words. Basically insulting every fan as illiterate when they clearly had read the books. Peak stupidity

And yet, I still find this scene deeply insulting to Tolkien's Dwarves, who never considered stone to be inert. In fact, Dwarves and stone were related in a very real way, having the same "father" in Aule. Between the two of them, the stone was actually the legitimate "child" of Aule while the Dwarves were an unsanctioned creation on the side. When the head of the family confronted Aule about it, he offered to crack the Dwarves to pieces with his hammer. Fortunately, Grampa Eru stopped him and decided to acknowledge Aule's unsanctioned offspring and welcome them into the family. Which makes the Rite of Sigin Tarag....a spiteful "see how *you* like it" for what was almost done to their ancestors? 'Cause sure, why not, don't we all base our trust and respect on who can literally crush more of our own cousins' skulls in one sitting? For no purpose other than to prove you can and see the fragments, apparently.😮💨
@42Nightsyesterday Жыл бұрын
Where is your source for this? I always thought the dwarves were greedy and certainly had no scruples about smashing stones to get the shiny stuff beneath. If anything dwarves smash more of their ‘cousins’ as you put it than any other race save orcs. Where did you get your information for this cultural perspective on stone? I know of Aule shaping them from stone but other than that what you say is new to me
@sarahgould5435 Жыл бұрын
@@42Nightsyesterday It's the origin story for the Dwarves in the Silmarillion. Which they say they have no rights to use, but by the same reasoning, they have no rights to use Aule's name at all. But they don't need to use the story anyway, they can just depict the Dwarves' culture and relationship with their homes as the natural outcome of that story. Also, the only time the Dwarves are described as being so lost to greed that they would strip mine is after they became corrupted by their rings...several centuries after Sauron's defeat. (That one *is* in the Appendices) The Hobbit described the extremity of the Dwarves' reaction to Smaug's hoard as being caused specifically by Smaug's influence. Under the influence of the Rings, yes, the Dwarves eventually sought wealth no matter what or who it would damage, but one need only look at Lori Vallow to recognize that evil can influence even highly protective people to stop caring about even their closest family. At all other times, the Dwarves attitude toward stone was more in line with Gimli's reaction to the Glittering Caves under Helm's Deep: the stone should be shaped with respect and only for a purpose. The Dwarves of Khazad-dum considered that each of the three mountains they lived under had its own personality, for crying out loud!
@42Nightsyesterday Жыл бұрын
@@sarahgould5435 as I said, I’m familiar with the silmarillion origin story of the dwarves. It is true the dwarves have an appreciation for the natural beauty of caverns, but to the extent that the perceive each rock as a kinsman seems a bit far. No matter how carefully you dig, it will entail smashing and breaking stone. Considering how much they dug and how extensive their underground cities were, it would be like a gentle genocide of rocks. The dwarves greed has been their foil in nearly every Tolkien text about them, leading to the war between the dwarves of Nogrod and elves of Doriath, the digging too deep into Moria and releasing the balrog, the hoarding of wealth to lure Smaug. There was also the greed of mîm the petty dwarf in the first age. Who is Lori Vallow? I’m not familiar with him. I only recall Caradhras as only being called “cruel” and that largely because of its reputation as a difficult mountain to pass. We do such things in our world, it does not imply that they necessarily worship it as a real entity. People speak of Everest of Mount Fuji (sometimes called mr. Fuji in Japanese) in anthropomorphic terms. Do you have examples of the personalities of the other summits? And as I said before, Gimli’s appreciation for the beauty of the glittering caves also does not necessarily indicate that he views it as a living entity and kinsman.
@sarahgould5435 Жыл бұрын
@@42Nightsyesterday Lori Vallow was a mother. She protected her kids and then got them away from her abusive 2nd husband, but after she got mixed up with a cult that taught "possessed" people needed to be killed, she helped plan the gruesome murders of the same daughter she once protected as well as the son she had adopted afterward, by telling the other members that her children had become possessed. Her apparent motive was that she liked how powerful the cult leader made her feel, they didn't want to drag the kids along in their new life together, but still wanted to draw on the kids' welfare checks. There were more murders, but those were the ones relevant to "people can change." She was just recently convicted.

'No, you do not understand,' said Gimli. 'No dwarf could be unmoved by such loveliness. None of Durin's race would mine those caves for stones or ore, not if diamonds and gold could be got there. Do you cut down groves of blossoming trees in the spring-time for firewood? We would tend these glades of flowering stone, not quarry them. With cautious skill, tap by tap - a small chip of rock and no more, perhaps, in a whole anxious day - so we could work, and as the years went by, we should open up new ways, and display far chambers that are still dark, glimpsed only as a void beyond fissures in the rock. And lights, Legolas! We should make lights, such lamps as once shone in Khazad-dûm; and when we wished we would drive away the night that has lain there since the hills were made; and when we desired rest, we would let the night return.'
