We Found a California Brown Octopus Hiding in a Soup Can in San Diego Tidepools

Michael was so excited that we found a California Brown Octopus on the shore of Mission Bay in a soup can. There were little tide pools all around so we dropped him in a pool and took a minute to appreciate this awesome creature.
Ever since the super moon a few months back, San Diego has been trawling out the edges of Mission Bay in San Diego. Unfortunately this reeks havoc on the wildlife. The California Sea Hare that Ellie found was not doing well when we found him and was inking in distress. Even the octopus that we found seemed shook up and disoriented.
Before we left we made sure that the California Brown Octopus found his way back to the sea and that all was returned as we had found it (except the soup can because it's litter ;)

Stephanie Douglass great question! We did set him back in the ocean after we got a good look at him. It’s actually super normal for octopus to be in small pools like this one. They hunt in them during low tide 🤗

Stephanie Douglass no problem! Octopus are such interesting creatures! Did you know they can fit through any hole that’s the size of their eye or larger? So crazy to think they are that flexible!
