It is so confusing!!! Most of our literature is American so we read words like 'color' and 'favorite' only to then be taught in school to spell these words with a u! The worst is words like 'travelled'. I always see it with one l because of American books, but then we are expected to write it the British way with two! Sorry. I dunno why I am going on a rant about this. I just find this stuff both fascinating and infuriating. 😂 I also have both Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone AND Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone. 🤷‍♀️ Long story short, I normally prefer the British way of everything, but Canada is so close to America that it is just weird.

I can’t imagine how confusing that would be, especially to young children. I guess something similar here is that we use the imperial system however for science and sometimes mathematics we are required to know and use the metric system. The caveat is that it is usually not taught and it’s kinda a hey kid go figure it out sorta situation

Listening to James talk about sweet potato reminded me of my secondary school days when I visited the Old Ford Factory in Singapore. It is a WWII museum showcasing artifacts and memories of what Singaporeans went through after the British surrended us to the Japanese (I'm still salty to this day, could've had HM Queen Elizabeth II as my monarch). As part of the museum tour, I had a chance to eat what my late grandmother ate to survive the Japanese Occupation - tapioca and sweet potato, with barely any seasoning. It's starchy and weird but surprisingly filling. I liked the tapioca whereas my classmates hated it. 🤷‍♀️
