That tree burl reminds me of Pan from the Greek stories, and he played the flute. Maybe the owner of the large harmonica and Pan had some wild times up there in the woods, playing some music and dancing around drinking cider and mulled wine. I def would make sure that the tree is well taken care of. That is nature's art with a side of weirdness just because it can.

Brad and Chris there is an old saying that even a bad day of fishing is a much better day than being at work. So I'm pretty sure that you could apply it to metal detecting to. I really look forward to seeing you out and about, thanks.

DEFINITELY. I make my living buying and selling antiques and collectibles including coins, and as a single mom with no other income I basically have to hustle every waking hour. Even when I grant myself 'down' time I can't relax enough to just watch a movie or something; I feel a constant need to seek desirable objects. If I'm sick of making Ebay listings or I just finished a big reorganizing effort or something like that, if it's late at night I go through whatever recent pocket change or bank rolls I have, to look for errors and whatever.....but if it's daytime, baby I'm hopping in the car with Holmes and Watson (detecter and pinpointer)! I rarely find anything remotely good (Mercury dimes are the very best so far), but just the chance of a great discovery is compelling enough, and it is SOOOOOO fun and meditative.

Have I mentioned I love your videography? Because I love your videography! I love that I can hear all the ambient noises clearly and also your peaceful approach to presenting these hunts. Your channel continues to inspire my own growth as a newbie KZbinr. That's an interesting discussion re: spirits! I'd like to think that if that were the case, we were honouring their memory by cherishing their items once more before they are lost to the earth. Love the elephant spoon. Happy hunting. :)
@HokieJuju4 жыл бұрын
DirtFishMish I totally agree. He has the best videography I've seen on KZbin!! I love his calm nature (I'd be flipping out with excitement at some of his finds!) and his knowledge of what everything is!!! He's incredibly smart & u can tell he's studied up and knows his his history which is another thing I love about him. My favorite thing about this channel is that Brad always learns the history of the area he's going to hunt & lays that out to the viewers which is so cool!!!! This is definitely one of my favorite channels!!!

Julianne Harris yes, the story-telling aspect is so great. I’m in Australia, so my knowledge of US history isn’t great (Australian coins are my thing!). I love learning about the history of US currency in particular through these episodes, but as always with detecting, you never know what a day will bring and some of the surprise finds are equally amazing. 😊

Wondered where this was going. Someone living in an enchanted forest, a frog, horse riding person, tree spirits. Sounds like a fairy tale in the making
@mattvermont79944 жыл бұрын
Hi Brad, The bullet you found is a .58 caliber 3-Ringer or Minie Ball that was used during the Civil War in Springfield Rifles. What's interesting about yours is that it was pulled from a rifle unfired using a worm type puller. That is why it has that ringed groove at the point. The puller resembles a corkscrew and wraps around the bullet cutting that groove in it so it can grip and the bullet pulls out easily. Even more interesting is the question of, were there Union Soldiers in that area during the war? Those rifles were used for sometime after the war, and many were converted to the Trapdoor single shot cartridge style later in life. I doubt they were sold off as surplus until the late 1800's or early 1900's. So it was either a Soldier in the war that unloaded there (due to the rifle refusing to fire, or it was removed by a hunter later in history for the same reason.
@digrdug61214 жыл бұрын
The nub tip on the 3 ringer is either from the mold and was never clipped off. Or to tie string around for use as a sinker

The minnie’ ball looks like a 58 caliber and I have never seen one “wormed” like that. I think they carved it. It may have been cast and still had the blob on top and they just carved on it being bored. Idk..love your videos
@skybarnum98594 жыл бұрын
Yea, the ring on it isn't from a worm or puller, nor is it a spru from the mold. I shoot black powder and cast all my own balls. That mini ball was carved like that. Who knows why, but it was carved.
