Guys you can make your car have 24hr 12v power so you can charge your devices while you sleep, should only take a auto sparky 10 mins to hook you up. I would do it for free if you were in Palmerston North. Just an idea, another great vlog, you guys are crushing it.

Hey guys as a Kiwi in Wellington, I'm absolutely loving the butchering of the pronunciation of towns and lakes, it's adorable (Including Te Reo). You are doing your best, as Kiwi's we really appreciate that! I was the same when I went to Ireland and tried to say the Celtic names correctly and sounded like I had a speech impediment. Keep going, thoroughly enjoying your journey 🙂

The Mackenzie country/region is spectacular and you guys really showcased the region so well. Just the heat looked like it was getting to Mado and thise pesky sandflies. Those hydro lakes are real gems even if the water temp is cold! Thanks guys and looking forward to see Timaru.

If you haven't already got some, you should buy a couple of those full-size reflective windscreen shades for the car, one for the front window and one for the back. They can noticeably reduce the internal heat, and will save the food in the back from getting too much sun. Plenty of shops have them, such as the Warehouse, and they're quite inexpensive.

The houses at the Waitaki dam were for the bosses that built the dam. They were full of asbestos so most have been striped and left. The person that owns the big house at the back owners all the houses on site. Hope you got to Oamaru, particularly the old part of town

They're working on sealing the roads, but a lot of less-used back roads are still a work in progress. Focus tends to be on upgrading safety/maintaining the main highways.

This time of the year, roads are resealed with stone chips whilst it's hot so that they embed into the tar which will be soft under the stones. Be careful on them, drive slowly and keep distance from the car in front in case of stone chips flying into your window. Check your tyre wells in case you gotta dig them out... I had to recently. 😢

Glad you have made it to timaru. Did you make it to Oamaru at all. The reason there are so many gravel roads here in NZ is because of the cost involved to seal them. It costs alot to seal them often there just isnt enough money in to do so without a major rise in tax and road user chargers etc... just be very careful when driving on gravel roads and take into account the dust kicked up to the vehicles behind you. If your still in Timaru check out the bay hill area and Caroline bay. The gardens are also pretty cool as is the south beach

for the clay cliffs maybe cos of farm? what you say is true except for 2nd gravel road it is like another recent video of theirs - its just resealing work done during the summer, stones settle after period of time then maybe final sealing of road or something like this:)
@gregoryhodge6352
@gregoryhodge6352 8 ай бұрын
The one they were referring to was a new seal. Aggregate over tar. Common in summer when a lot of roads are resealed.

Hi Glen and Mado , I don't know if you are aware what the canals were constructed for ? In the 1960's a huge hydro scheme got under way in what is known as the Upper Waitaki , eight dams were built , Benmore , Clutha and Roxborough to name a few , the canals were built to link the lake systems in the area , if one lake has too much water and another lake does not have enough water , the gates are opened and water is transferred from one lake to another , this is done to ensure that the hydro electricity production is kept as high as possible . There is a electricity cable crossing Cook Strait , this enables electricity to be sent to the North Island , I think Huntly , a coal fired power station near Auckland , is the only electricity generated in the North Island and the cable allows electricity to go from South to North only , so the systems that you are seeing , generates almost all of NZ's electricity needs , quite ingenious . Temporary housing were constructed at these dams to house the workers and their families, from memory , they decided to leave all the housing at Twizel , a first I think , and after the work was completed on the canals , the houses were sold off as holiday homes etc , and the town has now become an established visitor destination .

There is a reasonable amount of power generation in the North island. Manawatu and wellington wind farms. Geothermal around Taupo. Hyrdo along the Waikato River are some examples.

Hi Glen, hi Mado, we say it like this “twize el”. Oh-how for Ōhau. With the sand flies, mosquitoes, biting insects. I always use a repellent. aerogard odourless protection is good. You need to use it before they get the chance to bother you. You spray a little on arms, legs and neck. If you rub it round it will last longer. citronella is the main ingredient. Regards frm Lyndon.

If you’re going to Queenstown try going to skippers canyon. The road is mad crazy., but the views are to die for. A wee warning the roads classed as one of the worst roads in the world. They do 4WD tours up there, you might want to check it out. Also when you’re on the West Coast a trip up the Deniston Mines near Westports worth a look. The history up there’s interesting.

@vsksf

the "cafes" in more secluded and rural areas are breakfast/lunch cafes.. The locals get up early and the tourists come through for lunch and early afternoon. The locals have dinner at home and the tourists have moved on to towns for their accomodation and restaurants. These little cafes may see 1 customer after 3pm if they'e lucky.

Again with the illegal drone use. Clay Cliffs are on private land and according to the drone laws in NZ, you must get permission from the landowner to fly a drone on their property. I know that the landowner denies permission to fly a drone at Clay Cliffs because I myself was denied permission, and out of respect did not fly my drone there.
