That's Perkiomen Ave running by the front. My barber (for last 25 years or so) is at the first street (19th) you come to driving down that hill. My mother-in-law lived across the street in a new age assisted living building. There is no such thing as a haunted cemetery or haunted anything else. It's the living you need to be concerned about, not the dead.

If ever you decide to return to Aulenbach's Cemetery, please reach out. I wish I had known of your visit. At that time, I was a member of the cemetery's Board of Trustees and would have happily met you to assist. I did a lot of the genealogy research during my time on the Board and know some of the stories. There is a ton of history in that cemetery.

I am from Reading, Pa, and passed Aulenbach cemetery many of times, and never knew that the cemetery was that big. I never heard of Rosy’s story. One person that would know, would be Carlie Adams. He writes books of haunted Berks County.

The story of the statue is years ago a group of teens broke the head off and one arm of that statue. They put the head and arm in the trunk of their car and drove around. They had a car accident and all 3 kids had their head cut off and one arm broken in the accident. They died of the same damage they did to that statue.

That area just uphill from there is known as Hessian camp because the mercenaries captured in the Battle of Trenton were held there until the end of the Revolutionary War. Many, if not all, of them remained and became U. S. citizens instead of returning to Germany.

Did you find any written evidence before you shared these stories. I've lived in RDG all my life and never heard of the hessan soldier story or the team accident.
@angeldotterer2284 Жыл бұрын
There is documented evidence about the accident involving Joseph Fegley in the newspaper archives. This I do know. I'm not 100% certain about Rosie without looking through my research notes from my time with the cemetery. The Hessian Soldiers were kept in a camp on the "side" of the mountain that adjourns the cemetery property, where exactly I do not know. While I am fairly certain none of the soldiers were buried in the cemetery (as it was not officially a cemetery until long after the war) it is not improbable that they traversed the property at some point prior to it becoming a cemetery and therefore could possibly "haunt" the grounds.

@angeldotterer2284 Жыл бұрын
The box on the stake? It's a birdhouse. There are a number of them throughout the cemetery. They were originally placed by a former caretaker of the cemetery as a way to easily identify people of note for a tour that was done yearly.

Just had dream other night group ghost soldiers wearing dark blue wool uniforms brass buttons matching cap small bill. It's so cool 😎 The weird thing is the statue is so small. I wonder how it was damaged?
@bdickinson67514 жыл бұрын
Not certain about that damage but the local lowlifes have gone in there and caused damage to the many of those graves in the recent past. Also, that cemetery was seriously neglected for some time, and now relies solely on volunteers to take care of it when they have the time.

Some teens went to the cemetery and vandalized Rosie's grave by breaking off the head and arm. As they went along their way they were in a horrible wreck and were decapitated and lost their arms. When the trunk was searched they found the head and arm of Rosie's statue. True or not? No one knows. When pictures are taken there often orbs can be seen. I googled it.
@joanna58814 жыл бұрын
These stories are usually urban legends and just about every cemetery and covered bridge has one. As for two-yr-old Rosie haunting the cemetery, it's likely a story built around the headless statue.. possibly by vandals who damaged the statue and then invented the story.
