6 weeks !!! Sorry not a chance, I’ve owned four t25’s and a couple of t4’s over the years and from what I’ve learned from owning my vw van collection was to buy a sprinter or crafter, t3’s look cool but they are bloody awful to live with ( from my experience ) but good luck with your project and I hope manage to achieve your goals
@ItsOhJoe Жыл бұрын
We converted a sprinter a few years ago now, toured in it for 6 years & we’d love another. We had plans that required an MOT exempt vehicle hence the T25 but not 100% they’re going ahead now. The T25 should be entertaining anyway!

cant believe you cut a massive hole in your floor! these vans create enough of their own holes anyway, don't need any added lol Just found this channel, and as a T25 owner myself i'll be keeping an eye on your build :)

As always, don't get discouraged! One of the hardest parts of any job is to get it started--versus being too intimidated to ever begin. You two CAN do this! Also, even if you do need to get someone with more skills to help with the welding and whatnot, you will be able to learn a bit from them as they go along. Everything you learn will come in handy later--if not on the van, then on the boat, or even elsewhere.

In the first video of the van i thought the rust looked pretty bad but don't listen to the naysayers. I don't think 6 weeks is a realistic target but if you spent time and get things done properly you could end up with a decent vehicle. I would advise that before you spend any more money that you have a decent look underneath and give the main vehicle structure a good prod around to look for rust. Keep positive thou👍👍

To add to the basics of mechanics: WD40 is NOT a lubricant, "w d" stands for "water displacement". Go get a good penetrating oil when you're dealing with possibly seized fasteners.

So basicly, its a rustbucket? Thats bad luck, but turn your luck around! De-rust it, let the welding guy have a go, make it safe, make it snug, you will get there. ( easy said right? ) You have youre mind set on it, and then every step is a little battle. Those are the jobs you will remember and think of the feeling when its done and youre one youre way! Funny, i was thinking its a german build car, the could build quit good submarines, you would expect the can make a car rust resistent? But there you go.....

Won’t the safe be protruding too low underneath and become a hazard? Also is it waterproof and weather proof as I have watched other videos lately where the weather underneath causes lots of wear. I do worry for you both as the body work is so poor and heaven forbid in an accident it wouldn’t keep you safe. Please careful please. Safety first x
@ItsOhJoe Жыл бұрын
So in the hole that the safe now sits used to be a heater which was even lower again with no problems so will be fine. There’s no crumple zone with these no matter how strong the bodywork is so it’s more of a hope and pray kind of driving style 😂😫

Hi. I have to comment as I can't let you carry on, you are going to wreck you engine if you put that oil in. That oil is suitable only for pre 1965 single port Beetles. Your engine is a Type 4 engine with hydraulic tappets. It must have a mineral multigrade oil either a 10/40, 15/40 or 20/50. Regardless of what the Just Kampers website says. Next, the rust. The reason your window frames are rotting out is because the area of the roof where the fibreglass top meets the steel roof of the van, will be as rotten as a pear. You can see the water damage and it is why the headlining stinks. You will need to remove all of the carpet inside the roof to find the full extent of the damage, but I assure you that it is there. I am restoring a T25 and have exactly the same rust problems. The edge of the floor that had that aluminium plate over is hiding loads of structural rot and someone has bodged over it with that plate. I have been working on these vehicles for 30 years and I assure you that if you carry on as you are, there is going to be a whole world of pain. Sorry if this sounds harsh, but I am telling you the truth as I don't want to see you get hurt, which is what is going to happen if you try and drive that van to Greece. It needs a full strip down and restoration.
@ItsOhJoe Жыл бұрын
Thanks for the info on the oil, did some looking into it and seems to be an ongoing debate - might switch it out for the modern 15/50w by the sounds of it though. Ref the roof, to be fair it’s not the headlining that smells and I’ve peeled carpet back in places/smacked the roof from inside and it’s solid/no sign of major rot. Out of interest, how does the water get in if the fibreglass is obviously on top & covering the roof? Is it through a bad seal along the edges and forced in when driving? Yeah the tin works not the best but the chassis appears solid, we’ve got a pre MOT next week so all will be revealed.

It was wiser not to have bought this van it's held together by rust.
