John, Could the "thimble" actually be a cane tip? A walking stick? Might explain the iron on it. And the iron on the lip, a pin to hold it to the shaft.
@ChristianThomas-wf5dl6 ай бұрын
I concur..cane tips had a steel insert at the tip maybe?

My best guess for the spoon would be: Assay mark for London with the date letter of 1848, I believe the maker is Chawner & Co (George William Adams). He worked from 1840 to 1884 in Hosier Lane, Smithfield, London.

I have been watching your videos almost since the beginning , you do an EXCELLENT job! Very entertaining! My family and I were ready to visit Scotland right at the time of the pandemic. Now things have gotten a bit complicated but we still dreaming of a visit there in the future. Based on your comments, you give tours. Have you ever thought to offer tours of Edinburgh and combined with some metal detecting escapades ? Again, congratulations for your very entertaining ( and educational ) videos !

Great finds John and good to see Sneaky Pete as always! 🤗. I don’t know how you do it out in Scotland, people just seem to throw away silver, bits of jewellery and watches??? Obviously and lot more careful here in Chester … which is no good to a hopeful 😅 detectorist ! That thimble is lovely and hope you can clean it up ok 🤞
Pete's coin with a bird that you thought might be a heron looked like a cormorant to me. Live in SoCal 20 miles inland from the coast. This week were hitting our first 90 degrees F.

What a stellar day mate! Every time you find a 6 pence I’m reminded of a pop group called “6pence None The Richer” the George 7th was something I have not seen before and then, as if that’s not enough the silver thimble is more beautiful than any thimble I’ve found. What easy digging as well, I’m gonna start eating more carrots 🥕! Be safe mate and thanks again for taking the time to take us along! I used to have a Deus 2, so that silver spoon was a blowout on the headphones 🎧 I googled it; GA over CO= George Ashworth & Co. [𝙎] Late 1800’s ~ Early 1900’s GA into a quatrafoil = George Angell [L] entered 1850.

Pete's scrollwork lettering looks like the monogram brooches American women would wear back in the 1960's or 1970's and the first 2 letters look like J and G. Sometimes they put the last name letter in the middle and bigger than the other two but yours doesn't look like it.

That mysterious object at minute 21:38 with the eagle on it looks like the back of a US Morgan Dollar. The eagle looks very similar. Im relatively sure it is not a real Morgan Dollar but it has the same eagle on it I believe. Maybe a token of some kind or a badge.
@roygbiv51642 ай бұрын
Thimbles often had a different type of metal on the tip. Many thimbles found in the US are tipped with lead. Maybe yours had some type of iron tip? I think its too thin for a cane tip(?).

The aluminum token has an eagle very similar to a Morgan silver dollar from the United States. Readers Digest used that eagle on tokens for its magazine, so it may be a similar publisher's token.

Man i read and read and read through the comments and only ONE that i saw had anything about that button S. Pete found. I have seen that emblem "Somewhere" before but just cannot remember. It sure looks like a Cormorrant (?) to me. Seems like it was something American Marines related? Someday, you shall have to have a complete video dedicated to all your iffy finds after you cleaned them up at home. Like this Silver "Thimble" you found. We'd all love to see whats under that iron "tip" for one thing.

The unknown medallion thing has a Great Seal of America feel to it. Closest I’ve seen is a Half Dollar maybe… although, the exact configuration of Eagle surrounded by a ring of stars then a ring of dots, then a ring of text and then another ring of dots is not one I’ve been able to find. Can you get us some shots of it cleaned up a little more? Could be some sort of Diplomatic Seal too possibly?
