I spent a year snaking logs by mules in the late 1960's, one day the man who owned the property bought a new 310 Case dozer. We fought to use the dozer which was a big improvement over the mules. Since then I fell in love with heavy equipment.

Chris, For me there was a wow moment. At about the 24:00 mark you guys are checking out a wheel loader with Clark on it. I recognized it immediately as the Clark's were next door neighbors to one of my best friends growing up. That loader originally was in the Lansing Michigan area.

I wish we knew the history and lives these old machines lived, the things they've helped to build, the people that operated them. Its so incredible to know that some of these machines helped build our country. Most of the new stuff it is just shit and abused, but the stuff that's 60+ years old. man, the history. Love it!

We had a Cat 320C excavator that had over 28,000 hours on it when 9 years ago, it was in need of it's 3rd undercarriage but was still a great operating and decent looking machine. They'll go and last forever if you take care of them.

running a cat 320dl right now as we speak with a hammer with 18k hours. 18,806 to be exact. i hate running any hammer and the seat needs replacing but the machine itself doesnt burn even an ounce of oil its strong as when new and still is nice. we run it in a recycling facility in our concrete recycling area and it takes a beating but it runs like a top only thing it needs is the track adjusting cylinder on one side which is on order and scheduled to be done.

Until recently I had a JD350C track loader (sold it to move out of state) and that thing was really handy to have around the farm... small enough to get into smaller places to feed and such... big enough to move most anything you'd reasonably need to. Not a commercial machine per se' but a handy tool.

You can tell a piece of equipment is big when instead of a gland nut at the top of the cylinder it has a bolt flange. That CAT track loader is pretty massive.

I wish I knew who got that 983 crawler, I got one that runs and operates good but gets a little bit of water in the oil so it don't get used now so it would be a great parts for that one , those machines are cheap high production machines but parts are getting harder to find . This one has a rake that goes on in place of the bucket . Will as a parts machine

The beeping in the JCB was a distress call by the machine in protest at DP jumping in the seat. The Komatsu at 41:30 is no good for DP, he would take a month to change a track even with MBTS helping out (and probably burn up the crane doing it).

716 liebherr same as a Deere 700k that decel pedal was in creep mode you can switch it back and forth. They will push circles around a 700k but their extremely complicated machines. The down stroke on the lift cylinders seemed a bit short to me. Tried and 716 and a 726 last summer I’ll stick with a Deere.

My father had a John deere Caterpillar 420 for logging, where the backhoe is at, my father and his good friend made a boom for the back of the top of the cat and put a steel pulley on the end of the boom and then they put a smaller pulley closer to the back of the cat, and then put a winch on it for winching logs

That 313 has nothing on some of the excavators they use out near the inner banks of NC, you'll see a 18-25t machine with the stretched undercarriage, super wide tracks and then the whole undercarriage will be twice as far apart as a normal excavator just to reduce pressure. It's almost like they stuck an excavator top on a marsh tracker
