@@finkamain1621 That's still pretty common in Germany. Worked at a company which allowed us to smoke in the office (we had a smoker and a non smoker office) and even installed some high end ventilation system so you could smoke and don't even smell your own cigarette.

Surplus is fun to get into. I lived in West Germany as a kid before the wall fell, and I remember seeing those East German soldiers looking across the border at us. I'm glad Germany has been unified since then.

I was stationed in Germany after the wall fell and that surplus was everywhere for dirt cheap. Now it's drying up. BTW, I have been a WW2 German re-enactor for over 30 years. The enlisted NVA boot is not good for re-enacting as it has rubber soles and a stipple pattern in the leather. Even in the early 90's when there were only a few companies reproducing WW2 German equipment most people stayed away from those boots. Most of us used converted West German Wachbataillon boots. I was lucky and had a pair made by a local shoe maker when I was stationed in Germany. He and his Father made boots for the Heer in WW2 when he was a little kid.

Got an Italian army blanket that was cut a little and used in a latrine as carpet...Still good! I wouldn't mind one of them German blankets. A wool blanket is a tent. it's a coat..it's a life saver.
