When having to hold threads in your channel lock pliers use a 1” piece of garden hose that is cut open. It protects the threads nicely.

My neighbor yelled at me the last time I did this with his hose....two or more nuts tightened against each other is a better option. Other rubbery gasket material might be safer to source for larger threads.

Matt: the way you have the pumping for the two tanks, it will only stabilize the tanks to equal levels. If you want put more water in tank versus the other, you need a transfer pump and additional through hull fitting at top and valves. It would also be nice so you could recirculate one tank and install a filter system to scrub one tank at a time or if one tank gets a leak you can transfer it.

Where the valves are located for the two water tanks, you should build that area out as a shallow cabinet, from top to bottom. Would be a good place to mount tools & hardware to the back wall that you might want accessible around the fordeck without damage to the chain. If the access door was only half-height (or so, depending on how much chain) and hinged at the bottom, you could still access the valves underway and not at anchor. Just a thought?
@MJSailing11 ай бұрын
That's kind of the way that they do it on the production boats. It's in its own enclosed cabinet vs our separation wall design.

Nice to see the finished boat. There is a lot to be said for the factory approach to building things, it creates repeatability which improve quality and lower costs. Building one of things requires a lot of learning process, but it does allow for customization and expression. It takes a lot of patience, and perseverance to do what you are doing. not for the faint of heart. One of the reasons I enjoy your show so much is those qualities we see you in you. The desire to do it right, and put in the extra effort required. In a way it makes one appreciate the factory product more, you do get a great value from the product they make.

Hey guys, good job on the inspection. We walked by the max at the Annapolis show, it looked like the port sugar scoop/transom was below water. Not in a good way. What was going on with that?
@MJSailing11 ай бұрын
This boat has it's tanks in the transom due to it being gas outboard driven, but even then, it shows how the narrow hulls with rounded aft sections doesn't like weight in the back. This is why we're working hard to keep all the weight centered
@DialedN_0711 ай бұрын
Water tank balancing.....Turn the one valve upside down so that both handles open towards the aft wall. Then your protection wall could be build closer and waste less space.
@MJSailing11 ай бұрын
Damn that's a good idea.... Too late, but still a better plan :)
@engineeringconsulting553411 ай бұрын
Matt, If you want to spend more money, but have some piece of mind of not emptying your water supply, you could: Refill the holes at the bottom of the tanks; drill holes in the top of the tanks; insert siphon tubes to the bottom of the tanks; and bridge between the two tanks with a pump and set of valves or two pumps to transfer. The ideal method would be to use only one tank for use with one pump without valves; that way you will have the other tank to top off the primary tank. Just a thought..or two. Thank y'all for sharing. Cheers! Blue Skies and Warm Temperatures. Faithfully, James
@MJSailing11 ай бұрын
We'll draw from the tops of the tanks for the pressure pump. But I didn't want to rely on it for transfer from side to side... It would take awhile and I don't love the idea of the wear and tear to that system.

@MJSailing11 ай бұрын
That's what a brush with a handle is for
@narr0wm1nd4911 ай бұрын
As an American married to someone from the middle east, absolutely put in the bum wash. It really is cleaner over all and you will use less paper so its less to worry about clogging the head and less you need to carry. No need to heat the water either. Most people will use the unheated wash and freak out the first time. Within a week you will be used to it and not notice the temperature at all. I think the only reason these aren't standard on boats is fresh water is at a premium. But with a water maker that shouldn't be a problem and if it you are low in your tanks just stop using it with all your other water conservation procedures. Don't pinch the threads. Get two extra nuts. Putting two extra nuts will allow you to have one lock against the other giving you a better surface to take hold of the shaft.
@HDRider160111 ай бұрын
Just curious why wouldn’t you jeliminate the cost of the valves and just allow the tanks to equalize 24/7?

Hi Cory. Our lungs are still safe thanks to you :). This boat had outboards - the only Max Cruise to not have hybrids. I don't think there will be conversation systems anytime soon. Ball valves for LONG TERM single position use are NOT a good option. A superior option for reliability on a valve rarely used is always a GATE valve made from brass. Ball valves take a set(plastic part inside a stainless steel or brass valve) and then leak(don't close) if left to sit for a long period of time. Gate valves have a self cleaning ability as it slides the garbage off the gate as it closes and is 100% made of brass etc, no plastic. .
