Back before I started watching this channel I thought rattlesnakes were aggressive. But even back then, it would never have occurred to me to throw a rock on top of one, or do anything else which would result in a slow, painful death. Behavior like this goes beyond plain ignorance. This is cruelty.

This video broke my heart, to see such a thing done. People would never do that to a dolphin or kitty, would they? Marissa’s kind heart is on full display here. How do you not admire her for getting involved and making the tough decision like that? I know that hurts her heart, you can tell, if you’ve followed this channel even casually for a few months, you know she loves these animals. All the work RS does to protect/relicate, just to have morons - no other word, and I’ve got even more but don’t wanna be cussing first thing on a Sunday morning in front of strangers…I’m trying to improve/be better about some things myself - and undermine all that work the team does. Just makes me angry and even more worrisome about the future. People show you who they are, and those who are mean/cruel/hurtful to defenseless animals are among the worst and can’t be trusted. They’re not hooked up right, so I couldn’t even have any in my personal orbit or circle of friends. The temptation to start a fight and beat them up every time I saw them would just be too overwhelming for me and I can’t go through life like Batman or Charles Bronson (as much as I may want to some days). I’m truly sorry you had to deal with this, Marissa. ❤️ You saying you couldn’t live with yourself if you didn’t go and check and make sure he was either okay or needed to be humanely put down and not suffer says so much about how you guys are. I know Bryan and the others would drive up there too. I’m sorry you had to see this. 🥺

I saw the gape of a cottonmouth just a few feet from where I was walking the other day, and it never occurred to me to do anything except stand back and give the guy his space. I wonder how the person who did this would respond if someone pinned a "bad dog" down with a huge rock and walked away from it.

I came across a beautiful Southern Pacific today on a hike today. I was so excited to show it to others, but I was also fearful that if others had seen it someone would potentially kill it. It's sad that some people can't see the beauty in rattlesnakes.

That was definitely a deliberate act... You can't accidentally drop a big rock on a snake like that. Unfortunately one time I had to put down a little Copperhead that was stuck in our outdoor cat cage which absolutely sucked. If you can prevent an animal from suffering good job but the opposite is sickening where people try to hurt or injure animals for no damn reason

More than likely the person came across the rattlesnake, was scared and tried to kill it with the rock (which many people would do). They probably didn't stick around to see if it was still alive.

Marissa, I was a nurse. I was on my way to work one day and ran over a snake on the road. I went home and called off. I love animals too and they are senselessly being harmed.

Poor, poor snake. Disgusting human behavior. Actually saw the same thing a few years ago on a trail in Big Sur. The snake was long dead. That has stayed with me all these years…it remained in my prayers and obviously in my memory.

The cruelty some people exhibit towards snakes and other species that have long suffered from misunderstanding and myths is unacceptable. Thanks to the compassionate hiker lady for calling you to come and get it. Even though nothing could be done for the snake, at least someone cared enough to try. I'm sorry, Marissa. I'm sure this is just one example of the sad side of RS's work. Hopefully, the brighter side is more and more common. Thank you all for educating us about these fascinating snakes.

Killing something is bad in and of itself but to critically injure something and let it suffer a slow antagonizing death is a whole new level of being sadistically cruel. Thanks to RS and crew many are learning to RESPECT these animals and not fear them. My transition from fear to respect happened several years ago. Keep on teaching, there’s always going to be those who are viciously cruel but many are coming around

They made the situation more dangerous by smashing the poor snake with the rock. Now it can't crawl away on its own and is on the trail now where it more in contact with people in pain and being defensive. Hopefully Karma will bless whomever with some bad luck for doing that.

A "like" for your video, but a huge "dislike" for the kind of sick people who think it's ok to hurt and torture animals. That they would do this is horrendous. Here in the east, Florida, we deal with this attitude a great deal. One of the worst offenders was my father, and I turned away from his attitudes a long time ago. He had the exact same attitude, and it could not be changed. He has gone to his reward, so I no longer have to deal with him. But my heart goes out to you to have to witness this thoughtless person's cruelty.

Where I live a 5 yr old boy riding his bike stopped at a trail sign to wait for his dad. Bit by a prairie rattler and died. Hard to convince me that snakes aren’t dangerous. Grizzlies and teddy bears are not the same thing. We should respect animal life, but we don’t have to be delusional.
