i recommend feeding Pixel in a different tank so it doesn't associate you opening the tank with feeding time, especially if you're going to physically wave the rat in front of it. I personally fed live rats to my Redtail, Columbian Boa for years with no problem. I just made sure to pick a mellow rat from the pet store.

You should buy some bedding to put in the tank, but be very careful as to which if you are going to buy some. Certain types have mites in them that will eat scales off the snake and what not so do your research beforehand.
