As an oitboard merc guy... change the stock metal reeds out for fiber reeds from either TDR or CCMS. I run tdr personally. When they break (and they will) the metal ones will chew up the piston, head and cylinder. The fiber ones will blow through the exhaust causing no damage.

10:00 the optimax is a two stroke so 'low oil' doesn't mean the same as for a 4 stroke as they don't have a wet sump. It just means you forgot to top up the oil injection reservoir, in which case you had it coming if it goes pop. Fun fact, the air compressor mentioned is part of a fuel injection system developed here in sunny Perth, Western Australia by the Orbital Engine Company, and worked on by my wife's uncle who did all the R&D testing.

I know I am a few weeks behind on videos, but hearing that you are in Florida and are going to meet up with the Coast Guard made me think of one of my all-time favorite video series on KZbin. There are three locations and they're called "Coast Guard Alaska", "Cape Guard Cape Disappointment", and "Coast Guard Florida". My favourite ones are the Coast Guard Alaska, but only because there are far more "rescue" type videos and the weather, distance, terrain are all so challenging. Plus, more of the videos in the Alaska series are aviation (helicopter mostly), which is so intense to watch. Those Rescue Swimmers are insane and the pilots are top notch. If anyone is interested in that type of thing, I highly recommend those series. It is on KZbin's DangerTV channel. Looking forward to the next few videos here! Heather🇨🇦

Being a sailor, haulover is the best part of the trip both leaving & returning. Sailboats are hard to swamp at haulover. I'm sure it can be done but it would be a ton of work. Powerboats swamp at haulover a lot. When sailing to the keys I normally sail out of Ft. Lauderdale & stop at haulover for the night. It's s short trip & it's not behind the reef so it's a good shakedown run before going blue water.

YES 😊 SAFE boats build and prep shipping yard is right next to the shop that works on RVs & Work trucks across the Highway from Bremerton Airport. I had my 1971 SeaGrave Fire Engine 🚒 ge some work and DOT inspection. I drooled over the Fence at all there vessels getting finished and prepping for Government agencies that will put them to work. So many different configurations depending on the mission they are built for. Some of the private builds they do for customers are great any weather fishing or just overnighters 😊

I’ve been around those engines for years. I’ve never heard that about them blowing up. The pro XS is the best one. Slightly more hp than listed on the cover. But pro anglers have even using them for years with 400+ hours no issues. They stopped making that engine in 2018. Mercury went all 4 stroke.

The oil sensor in the motor sometimes gets stuck and using a magnet running it up and down over the tank can generally fix it.

Just to say.. keep a spare air compressor, oil senders incl reservoir and air/fuel valves for the rail pressure adjustments, sparkplugs, they foul up once compressor or fuel rail valve goes... belts and spare hoses...on board that is obliviously incl tools... you could be right..... I used to service those as well as the DSI versions..... good luck...

I used to see those flying around San Diego all the time. Almost got run over by one while kayak fishing off Point Loma. He was running wide open and I don't think they saw me until they passed close aboard. I worked with some guys at the CBP Marine Interdiction Unit and got to check out their boats. They are impressive.
