Guys, I'm from the States, i've been going back to Myanmar for so many times, that food poisoning is not from the hotel, its that yogurt you had on the streets took about 2 days to kick in, trust me i had it. Don't blame the hotel.

Sorry to hear that. I don't know exactly what did you eat on that day for the dinner. But most of the people saying that it was from the street food in Yangon. Actually I think before you arrived at that hotel you did visited to Mandalay and other places. So street food from Yangon is about 2 3 days ago. You can't get food poisoning from the food you ate many days ago. It may be from the food you ate in Mandalay. I'm not denying that Yangon street food is a bit dangerous for European stomach. Be careful of those soy sauce with garlic and other types of sauce. And also that yogurt is not a good choice for you guys that can cause you diarrhoea 😅. However thank you for the positive vibes upon us. Thank you for visiting Myanmar. Hopefully you guys come again in next holidays.

I can say it is the most sick I have ever been, but I was prepared for it since it’s very common especially in lots of Asian countries for foreigners. Local pharmacy had the meds I needed and helped heal me up. Next time just go to a pharmacy and as soon as you say food poisoning they will hook you up. Very, very common.

"food poisoning" is just a general term. It can take from 30 mins-75 hours for different bacteria to cause symptoms. It's almost impossible to accurately find out what food contained the bacteria or virus that caused you two to become ill. Sorry you were misinformed and blamed the hotel (yes, it could have been their food but likely wasn't).

Most street food in Myanmar are not healthy and our local rarely try them. But, when we really wanna eat something, we check the cleanliness of shopper, freshness of the food and sometimes location(coz their may be some impurities and dust on food when they sell it on platform or nearby bus stop) I also saw both of you guys tried all street food in downtown at the same time and this is the reason why you guys get food poisoning. You guys' stomach might not be used to MM food. Sorry to hear that you guys are suffered. Even my foreigners' friends got sick for one week as soon as he arrived in MM. I have to warn all the foreign visitors to Myanmar. The food sanitary and hygiene status in Myanmar is not on par with most of the world. I mean, we have no problem because we grew up eating dirt for all our life. But most of you come visit from more developed or regulated part of the world, so you might have less immunity against such food than us. I appreciate you all would like to get the Burmese experience, enjoy Burmese street food and such, but there always is a risk especially the food stalls, The hotel staffs should've apologized nevertheless, that's service 101. But I can somehow understand because Food Poisoning is unheard of among Burmese people. I am 25 now, but if I am vomiting, I would doubt other diseases or illness, just because I literally have no experience of food poisoning.

There is a simple reason why this happened. In yangon, although you ate a lot of street food, most of them are freshly cooked when you buy them. So there is little chance of food poisoning though hygiene is still questionable. The problem lies with hotels when they got few guests. There is so much food wastage. It is a loss for the hotels if they got few guests and still need to open dinner restaurant. Most hotels just serve breakfast for that reason. You guys must've been fed with leftover food. Its best not to eat lunch or dinner at small hotels at all. This is a fact I know as a local.
