We Got Honey Straight from the Hive! Our Biggest Flow Hive Harvest

Moisture content affects whether the honey will ferment or not. Nothing to do with crystallisation 😊 If your honey is above 18% water, it may ferment in the jars after you ship them out. I’d recommend only collecting capped honey or getting a refractometer so that you can test it. If it’s a little high, you can run a dehumidifier in the same room as an open bucket of the honey for a few days to get the moisture out. Your honey seemed a bit too runny, so worth a check!

Oh my goodness look at all that liquid gold. I was so happy last fall when the guys took all the honeycomb out of the hives and brought me over a quart size bottle of honey from beehives. That is just the most delicious sweetness I have had in a long time, I have 3/2 on the property on my 1 acre and I’m always putting more and more flowers out in the yard for him and it is so good to taste that liquid gold and I do mean liquid gold. It’s such a beautiful amber color.❤❤❤❤❤❤

I got a couple questions about honey harvesting: 1) how do you determine the amount of frames to harvest? 2) what happens to the capped cells of the flow hive after a harvest? They have the first two deep brood boxes to use to get them through winter. Everything above that is extra. Cappings most likely remain. The bees can get in and refill honey behind them again. We do multiple supers on our Langstroth hives because they're smaller, but only one flow super on the Flow Hives. It is larger and we can harvest whenever it is full.

Thanks Jake and boys. I finally was able to get a jar. I keep getting to your website too late and now after 2 years, I get to try some of your honey. I enjoyed watching Uriah deciding that honey isn't so bad. He reminds me of my Son Isaac who as a child didn't like condiments of any kind and every time we would have him try ketchup. What are you spraying on the bees?? Wish i could be a beekeeper!! One of my favorite souvenirs is getting a jar of local honey from wherever i travel. My absolute favorite honey so far i bought in Abingdon, VA or Tennessee. I forget. It was a roadside stand. It was Sourwood Honey. It was the absolute best. I tried to buy some online but it was not the same at all.

Can take awhile to get the bees to put honey in the flow super, but once they do they do really well with the super. The blue hive is already filling up again. But our other 3 hives with supers on them - the bees haven’t stored much at all this year in there yet.
