That’s small hive beetle larva. You’re better off tossing those cut outs and letting them draw out new foundation. If you wanna keep it you can cut out the bad parts and then freeze the frames for later use. I do live honeybee removal’s here in Central Florida full-time. if you have any questions at all, please feel free to reach out and I would love to help

Just a helpful hint... next time leave the hive there next to the tree with all those bees since ya wasn't sure if ya had the queen.. make sure there's brood in the box and likely come back after dark and they will all be in the box
@carrollrhodes4050
@carrollrhodes4050 10 ай бұрын
Yes, if he had positioned the box in one position, say on top of the tree trunk, and then moved the small limbs with the bees to the top bars and covered the box with each jostle, then he would have been more secure in getting the remainder. The bees in the box would have begun to throw a scent and this pheromone would entice the bees to come in. If he had gotten a good portion of the bees in with only the brood comb (no honey) and left the box overnight, he could have picked the box up with most all the bees! (pick up before daylight)

That larvae is from wet "honey soaked" comb. Hive beetle crawling in the comb when you show it up close. Wet comb is best to crush and strain the honey and give it back to the bees. Good job catching it before you lost the hive. Wax moths will go after pollen and brood and burrow and "slime" your hives too. Don't know how much experience you have with hive pests but your hives look good. Keep it up and God bless.

I always love a garden update! Glad y'all's garden has been productive this year. Can't say the same for most of mine, but I've at least got a few types of mint to work with. We recently made a watermelon salad with some of it. If you're feeling crafty, it might be worth a shot. I'd never had watermelon salad before, but the melon pairs shockingly well with a balsamic-based dressing and a bit of cheese. It's a delightfully summery dish and you can use basil instead of mint. We tried it with a strawberry balsamic and a lemon balsamic and both were hits. Glad to see the Lego hive thriving too. It's truly payoff for all the work y'all have put in. Lots of love from somewhere else in Missouri.

One thing I suggest is placing the hive on its back side instead of placing the hive with the frames down because the grass will sometimes stick to the wax and honey on the bottom of the frames and make a mess that the bees have to clean up. Love y'all videos!

I remember my mom putting in beets with the cabbage grow boxes when the bad caterpillars and cabbage worms came. They loved the beets more than the cabbages, mainly cuz of the sweetness of the red beets. We still had some red beets left over, but the cabbages were mostly saved cuz of the beets. I hope those new bees do well! I love watching your videos on the bees, it's very interesting and fun. Stay frosty and stay safe!

Your beekeeping is coming along quite nicely! Bare with me I have a couple of things to say that will do you good and help you also! When you remove a feral colony, don't put honey ...honey comb in the frames for the new colony. Put it in a bucket AND place it at a distance away from the new box. Get a boardman feeder for the front of the hive. My suspicion is that the queen is a new caucasian-Italian hybrid. Maybe a Bro. Adam bee. The eggs you so generously showed were not posited in the direct center of the cells. This says two things: Either your queen is very new or you have a laying worker. I did not see any "over time brood" and this makes me believe the former. Just giver a little time and you should have a whole passal of new brood. The bees had a couple of oval beginnings of a queen cell. Was there anything in those cells? My guess is that there was not. If your new queen does not start laying aND making brood, you may need some queen material. In your nuc I think the bees will have been working overtime to make a new queen. All looks wonderful! Do you have queen cages? Those larvae. Those were small hive beetles. You did the right thing to get rid of them. Beetle traps to fit between the top bars of your brood box. You're great! Keep up the good work.
@whitehouseonthehill
@whitehouseonthehill 10 ай бұрын
Yep, queen doesn't want to lay. We moved her to a new hive. This hive is making a new queen, so hopefully that will fix their problem. Old brood and honey was removed. Gave them new frames from other hives with the brood in the middle of the hive.

Maggots are indeed a problem after relocation of bees. Dead or crushed brood easily attract flies. While attaching combs to frames a little of such crushing of brood always takes place, but bees often remove the dead brood. The newly captured colony must be given limited comb at first so that the bees completely cover the comb. Flies can easily enter bee boxes but a stron curtain of bees covering the comb can stop the flies.

If you have a stick with some white cloth, white paper or even a white plastic bag flapping in the breeze, other white moths think that there is already a moth there and will not bother to lay any eggs. The garden is looking great. Good luck.

FREE BEES. WOOHOO. That is awesome. I got 3 hives in the yard. Glad to see you got them. That is an absolute blast to frame up comb like that. I don't have a bee vac. Hey take one of your frames with rubber banded comb and lay it on top of the bees on the ground. They will climb aboard. As an edit you can set your box by the left over bees and just give them an hour. If you have your queen the leftover bees will join the crowd in the box.

I don’t know if the queen flew off but I opened it up and there is five new queen cells in the box so I moved them out of the nook, and into a full-size hive an up right Looking forward to see how that fourth one is going to do I’m up to four full-size hives now still a beginner, but getting there slowly❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
